Thousands of Muslims have signed a petition demanding that Nike remove a "blasphemous" and "offensive" shoe that they claim has "Allah" inscribed on the sole.

Lol Nike didn't mean to, it's not even that clear, upside down it reads something similar to the Arabic writing of Allah, so funny I swear, we live in such a sensitive society nowadays, get a grip.

The fact that blasphemy is still a thing in 2019 concerns me

Has it hurt sales? Because if not, they've not gotten in trouble, they've gotten free marketing.

Just remember, for every 1 that signed it, there's 100 of us who don't think it's really allahs name. Ppl just like to be offended.

Time will tell. Remember Charlie Hebdo.

That is the fear Nike will have, that some religious nutjobs attack their employees because of a scrawl on a sneaker sole.

I bet they pull this line of shoes. It is not worth the risk.

If they give in to recalling this line of footwear it will only lead to the continuing of this scenario, they must stand tall.

Stuff like this is partially what turns me off doing product design as a career, you have to safeguard yourself against absolutely everything but despite all that and having 99% of people totally fine with your product there is always that whiny 1% that is determined to find offence in everything.

Well you're certainly helping this situation aren't you. A bunch of people are being unreasonable so you decide "you know what lets make this worse"?!

That would seem a plausible assumption.

It always makes me smile how so many Cambridge guys have this chip on their shoulders about Oxford. Sure this is just a joke, but you so often see it.

In lots of ways Cambridge is the better university, a lot of the colleges are more beautifu architecturally and certainly for lots of subjects it is demonstrably superior. So why the need to diss Oxford? Is it because Oxford is older or something?? Because it is Oxbridge, not Camford?

You don't find the same need to put Cambridge down from people at Oxford in my experience. They don't care. Maybe that in itself is infuriating?
