Recruitment Agencies in London/Advice

Newbie! Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place! 😬

Long story short; I graduated in 2013, did internships in social media and events management for 2 years, and I've been working in retail for the last 3 years - currently an operations assistant, but the work I do is basically management level.

I've been accepted to do my PGC in Digital Media Management starting in October, so I'm looking to get a job that reflects that in some way - advertising, marketing, copywriting. Direct applications and speculatives are getting me nowhere, so I'm looking for a recruitment agency to help me out.

I've never been to one, and wouldn't know where to even find one because a lot of them don't seem to have offices where I can just drop in, they want a CV sent online and to arrange things via a phone call. Those are the only kind that I've dealt with, but I'd much rather meet with someone face-to-face to discuss what I'm looking for and get some proper guidance like an advisor.

I'm in London so if anyone is able to point me in the right direction or give me some advice I'd be very grateful. x

Sorry no-one has got back to you yet. My experience with recruitment agencies is that they are mostly staffed by young recent(ish) graduates who don't know the ins and outs of particular industries. Most aren't set up to help people like you who need guidance and support getting a job and may not get one straight away, they want to help those with plenty of experience who can be quickly placed somewhere so they get commission quick. Sounds like what you really need is to talk to someone whose already in one of the industries you are considering- is there any friend/acquaintance you could contact for a chat?

Thank you for replying 😊

I'd say I have a fair amount of experience to get a social media exec job - I get a fair few interviews for that kind of role... But I think the interview is where I lose it a bit. I'm not great at them. 😞

I've got a friend who works in a similar role, but she's not really been any help, neither have people I've previously worked for,or people I've met through uni. Anxiety makes it a little difficult to sort of network and find a mentor of some kind (working on the anxiety) - wouldn't know where to start with that either though!

There are a number of specialist marketing recruitment websites.

Look at agencies regularly posting jobs on there and get in contact with them. Make sure your CV is in good shape and I am sure they will be able to make a short appointment to see you face to face

Sound advice. I'll give it a go and see what happens  On a side note you took the username I wanted! :'( haha. I'll forgive you though.
