Since there are so many crazy people driving around I just want to make sure: If i'm in an accident and it was the other driver's fault, do I just take their insurance details or do I have to give them my insurance details too?

always give your insurants deets its the law
you think it was their fault take it to the court
having a registered dashcam is also useful
as you can show the footage to police on the scene and prevent the need for litigation

You must swap personal and insurance details. You give them theirs, they give you yours.

A registered dash cam?
if you dont have the dashcam registered with your insurance company it will be
significantly more difficult to have the evidence admitted into a courtroom as there will be no record of you owning one at the time of the incident
not to mention that having the insurance company know often brings down the overall cost of Insuring your vehicle because of this reduced risk
so yeah a registered dashcam is a good idea

(Surely if you buy a dashcam you've told the dashcam company you've bought one? )

A dashcam doesn't always reduce a premium, ironically.
