As its Valentine's Day soon, many people think it is too commercialised, just like Christmas, so yeah what are your thoughts and opinions?

Also to extend it, should there be a need for it? Shouldnt you show the person you love that you do ,everyday? However, does it allow for a day when you do something special together, as thats not possible everyday of course!?

I had no idea there was one, but just looked!

Do you think that it makes it more special for the ones who do know about it?

I agree that its become too comercialised.
Yes,its nice to have a special day to do stuff together, but you should show someone that you love them every day, not just on valentines day.

It's one day a year, I don't care if it's commercialised or not tbh. Everything is commercialised. If people enjoy it, I'm not arsed.

Why don’t you agree with it? Maybe the message got too commercialised but the basics are still there. It’s about celebrating love with your partners (unless you’re single)

Maybe they are Muslim and so see it as idolatrous.

For the singles it's sometimes about friendship love.

I've never agreed with things like this, mothers day, fathers day, valentines day, anti bullying week. I get why people take part, sometimes it's to raise awareness which I can understand but it's never sat well with me. I don't think things should require particular days to increase awarenss or to express our love for others, I think each couple should have their own special days which they choose to celebrate and show their love themselves if they like the idea of valentines day, etc etc blah blah

Don’t lose hope. There’s a person for everyone, just have to keep hoping but they’ll eventually find you or you’ll find them

I think it’s just to remind people about what they have. For example, with Valentine’s, it’s a day where you celebrate the love that you have. Any other day, you may be too busy to appreciate the partner you have but Valentine’s allows you to actually appreciate the effort and love you have for them. The same applies to Father’s Day and Mother’s Day.

Yeah I did say I understand why people take part etc. Do couples actually take the day off work etc?

This.

How can people say it's too commercialized? As opposed to what? In our life time when has it ever not been commercialized, just like Christmas?

Goes without saying.

We should celebrate peoples lives every day, not just on their birthday. We should celebrate our parents every day, not just on Mothers/Fathers day.
We should celebrate Yorkshire puddings every day, not just on 3rd of Feb.

Where do we draw the line?
