Is St. Andrews boring?

I've applied to ST. Andrews for an Economics BSc (Hons) but I've also applied to the uni of Birmingham and both are my main options. I'm torn between the 2 as one is better academically and the other is all-round better for me as an international (EU) student. Any tips??

I have visited the town three times and the students are definitely not boring! Everyone that I met was super nice and helpful whenever I asked a question. Lots of visitors to town as well so there’s always new people around. I hope I’m not classed as boring , but I just don’t like parties, I prefer to give a person my full attention when I talk to them. I think though that the reason people seem more “serious” is because if they’ve gotten in to St Andrews they must have worked hard for it. Another thing that struck my young and impressionable mind is when I visited the town a couple years ago, and police were combing through fields looking for a missing student. Turns out the poor boy had gotten drunk at the lacrosse club and walked off on his own late that night, drowned in the ocean. So sad , and avoidable. Took them like three months to find him. Drink responsibly, or not at all in my case. Anyway, the town is very nice in my opinion. I guess it’s just your own preferences, so pick somewhere that fits your personality

I firmed my offer yesterday (I absolutely loved it at the open day) and I consider myself a really sociable person, so I’m sure there’ll be more of us!
I think it’s a case of who you’re with, rather than where you are in terms of nights out and things.
I know a few people who are there already, and they have plenty of fun! Lots of partying too if their instagram accounts are anything to go by, lol.

How did you enjoy st a for your degree

I’ve got an offer for St. Andrews to start studying in September so I’ve been watching a few videos about accommodation and life and everything but the University seems to want to put across a certain type of person, one that comes across to me as someone I won’t really get a long with. I don’t want to be judgemental but everyone looks kind of quiet, awkward whereas I’m very sociable and like going out as well as the academic kind of life.
I was just wondering if this representation of St. Andrews is accurate? I really want to go there as it the course is amazing and the town is lovely but I’m just afraid I won’t really fit in and I’m more suited to a university like Leeds or Loughborough??

Hello,
I was wondering what you decided? I am in the exact same position as you were. I have an offer and although I recognize that the academics can't get much better, and it is definitely the best uni I've applied to in that sense, I am someone that likes to go out, have fun, etc.... Not something I do every day but something I like to do nevertheless. So I wanted to get your thoughts on it.

nowhere is perfect, Nottingham is dodgy, London is not student friendly, Manchester and Leeds are prob the best student cities but you have to get taxis and buses around. St Andrews is "boring" but watch those 1 second a day videos that some students upload to youtube and you'll see what an amazing time st andrews students have, just different to your run of the mill clubbing unis

Same here! I'm going to St Andrews and I live in Kent atm. I go out a lot partying and prioritise socialising just as much as my academics tbh so hopefully we won't be alone on that frount!
