Surely the first of many such announcements to come across the world. The Norwegian government is advising its students not to apply to UK universities because of Brexit.
https://www.theguardian.com/politics...brexit-warning

Postgrad applications from the EU are down 9% this year. This represents a major blow to UK university funding and cuts are now pretty much inevitable - it is also extremely likely that some universities in severe debt will go bust.

Another success for the Brexiteers.

What's wrong with Norwegian unis?

But Britain’s ambassador to Norway, Richard Wood, said Nybø’s remarks were unfounded.

He insisted that even if the UK left the EU without a deal, the UK would underwrite funding for Erasmus students and other exchange programmes. In a tweet, he said: “UK remains an attractive place for Norwegians to study. I hope it always will.”
The worst thing about this type of political propaganda is that it often insults people's intelligence. Not that lefties would notice that, of course.

Yes, everyone must (by order of the nationalist fascisti) stay in their own towns and not travel without a permit (from the local Gauleiter) or speak to anyone they do not recognise. Universities must be retained only for book burning ceremonies, presumably of texts defined by Farage as 'foreign muck' such as Proust. stuff about Abba and bibles.

Well perhaps it could be argued that the UK HE sector is overblown and could do with some of the wind getting kicked out of it

How many people are going to turn down a place at Oxford/Cambridge or one of the top London universities just because we aren't in the EU? It's just project fear as usual.

The article even finishes with "Last year, there was a 1% increase in overall EU student numbers, after years of steady growth.", so there's still growth, not some sort of exodus of European students.

It's very telling that the Graun fuels more hate and prejudice than all the right wing publications combined. You don't fight fire with fire

You're still insulting people's intelligence with that.

Brexit would be a bad way to 'discover' that, surely? Fair competition is one thing - your own government kicking the stool from under you, quite another.

Much like the industries pre thatcher and the unions there must be a culling of the universities, sure it may bring about some pain but overall it will fix the corrupt institutions

That is the nature of severe debt.

Perhaps it will encourage unis to offer more value for money.

Indeed. I hope to see more leftist brainwashing camps closing down as a result.

Perhaps they've woken up to the real state of UK universties.
An indicator of how desperate universities are to keep this gravy train rolling is in 2012 they made about 2,500 unconditional offers.
Last year they made over 60,000.
It's a house of cards they will do anything to prop up.
51% of students get to uni with 3x D's at A level.
Leeds Met ran over 90 courses where you could get in with 2 E"s at A level

It's in the EEA.

Edit: to account for new info/clarification...

Yes Norwegian citizens have to pay International fees, and don't get the SFE loans.

Project fear probably does more to drive away foreign students and investors than Brexit itself does. The constant pessimism and fixation on worst case scenarios doesn't inspire confidence. Imagine if the remainers had just gotten on board after the referendum? Instead they cut off their noses to spite their faces and divide the house against itself.

...project fear... mumble mumble...

Postgrad applications to RG unis from the EU are down 9% - if you're going to quote, at least do it properly. And if that's the case, isn't there going to be more money available for students at the rest of the UK's universities?

Absolutely. While there could be some issues that need solving, people are so pathetic and pessimistic they think that universites would be incapable of setting up a way for EU students to come and study here. How do they think people manage to come from the rest of the world?
