How lenient are notts with grades?

Hey,

Basically i've got an offer to do design engineering, if i get BBB. However at the mo, i'm most on track to get ACC. Do you think they would still let me in or not? (Taking into account that its not a v popular course, and they want more girls to do it). I was just wondering how strict they are, cos i'm getting quite worried!

Thanks xx
On the faculty website (http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/prospectuses/undergrad/course.php?code=014104) it says that the typical offer is BBB-BCC, so it stands to reason that with ACC you would probably stand a good chance - but of course I can assert this with no confidence! I know for some courses they are naturally stricter than others, but it wil depend on stuff like 'how many people missed the grades' and 'how under/oversubscribed is the course' and other factors that no-one can really predict.

Bottom line: push as hard as you can for the grades, because the higher you get, the better your chance.

Anyway, if it's not very popular you'll be fine. In the event of a course going into Clearing, they always take everyone to whom they've made an offer first, and whatever remains in terms of space they let out to the rest of the population. So as long as your course will be in Clearing, you should be just fine. I missed my offer by one grade (offer BBB, I got ABC) and they took me in no problem. But then again, my course was Neuroscience. (I'm now studying History of Art - I've since switched lol) Most people haven't even heard of Neurosci lol. Or Art History for that matter actually.

Try your best - whatever will be, will be  I believe whatever happens happens for the better in the long run. Besides, your course sounds extremely obscure, which means it's unlikely that many people will be doing it anyway, which means you have a higher chance of getting in even if you miss the offer.
They're more lenient than, let's say.. Warwick. I missed the grades by 14 marks but Nottingham took me anyway.

they're not lenient this year. even 1ums mark. they don't let internationals in when they normally did.

Someone I know missed the grades but got in anyway, so there's SOME leniency at least in certain areas... Not that this will help you seeing as you know whether or not you're in by now.

I don't know about other courses but this is what happened to me this year:
(normally offers for my course are BBB-BCC)
i got an offer of
BCC, with my B in either env.science or biology.
I got BCD, with B in psychology. so i assumed i wouldn't get it, but i came home after results and found that i'd been accepted without having to ring up or go through clearing. During the open days, the lecturers said that my course is becoming very popular, and had 250+ people interested, with only 40 places on the course.
Maybe not many people got their grades but, for me Nottingham have been very lenient, considering there one of the best universities for my course in the country

For you, just try your best to achieve the highest grades possible, & good luck

notts seem pretty lenient...my offer was ABC, with A and B in History and French, but i got AAC with a C in french so was really worried about not getting in, but i did without having to phone up or anything...but my course was in clearing ...

I've gotten accepted for Mech Eng but was wanting to switch to Design Engineering. Do you know whats actually involved in this course, like how is it different from the basic Mech Eng course.

You've got to remember that A Level results are only part of an application, if admissions are particularly impressed by your personal statement then your chance of acceptance will be high.

Don't kid yourself Blaton, it's simply a case of supply & demand and the quality of applicants. Miss a grade(even by a few marks) for Law, Medicine and Economics and you have next to no hope of still being accepted. Miss three grades in Physics and they'll probably still let you in.

What about psychology? Is that lenient too? I have been predicted 32/33 points (IB) and they require 34 points. Is it possible to still get an offer?

Psyc is popular but as a student ambassador for architecture which is also popular course I will tell you what they tell us to tell prospective architecture students. Basically no! It depends on the whole spectrum of grade for the entire country for example 2013 entry they let in a lot of AABs instead of the asked for AAA because the whole country had a dip in grade with a lot missing their targets. The year before that was the last of the £3000-4000 fees that year was so popular across the board because people weren't going on gaps that the uni struggled to house them all. That year if you missed a grade you'd definitely not get in.

But this is a common concern I was even doubting whether I'd get the grades at your stage. I was predicted ABBB ended up with A*A*AB. I'm under the impression that teachers deliberately do this to motivate you to work harder for your finals. I don't know whether this is the case for every body but I found AS a lot harder than A2. I'm guessing by A2 I had settled and understood the course more.

Don't worry Notts will still offer you a conditional place if you're only a grade off the required grades. Just get your nose into your books and I reckon you'll surprise yourself come August.

EDIT: This guy has posted the popularity of courses. Looks like yours is even more popular than mine. :frown:
