How reliable are the Guardian rankings?

In the 2019 ranking, they ranked Coventry and Reading as better than some in the Russell Group, like King’s College London and they ranked London South Bank as better than Queen Mary?? Does this have any credibility and if so what is it even based on

The Guardian has by far the most bizarre rankings.
The Guardian rankings are as good as any, IMO, but in general rankings are a few years behind what's actually going on at the universities and don't mean much. Oxford and Cambridge are at the top, other universities that you see near the top of the rankings are pretty good and quite prestigious (e.g. Bristol, York, UCL, KCL, Imperial, Warwick, Durham, what have I missed?); other universities that don't get into the top ~15 are basically kinda second-rate and won't make employers go ''ooooh'' when they read your CV. That's basically the long and short of it.

If you look at the Guardian league table, it tells you all the things that they are measuring. The reason that the results seem a bit strange sometimes is that they put a lot of weighting on student satisfaction, which is nothing to do with how well the Uni is regarded for its research. Russell Group Unis submit a great deal of quality research which helps with their reputation, but this does not mean that their students are particularly happy. So students at Coventry and Reading could well be more satisfied with their uni experience and course than students at Kings, to use your example.
The guardian rankings aren’t trustworthy
