the only slightly iffy one i've had so far was C2, but hopefully i made marks up in C1 and i still have D1 to go. i had english yesterday and that went really well, so i was uber pleased. what about yours?

OCR MEI and AQA? :ninja: :p:

If so I felt kind of the same, C2 questions 11 and 12 were a tad strange.

just AQA. the binomial question on C2 was ridiculous, there was no need whatsoever to put fractions in it, though i think i got the right answer. it looked right anyway. i also think i used the wrong trig identity on one of the end questions, aaarghh. i've forgotten most of the rest now... C1 was alright though, apart from some stupid chord of a circle question, and 90% plus in D1 can't really be too hard providing that i learn everything.

Aaah I'm so cheesed off, really want to go for a June Open day but there's so much happening in school that I don't know if it'll be possible. May go take a look sometime in June, not necessarily on an Open Day, but after all my exams are over. We are going to be having lots of lectures at school about UCAS and personal statements, that's why I'm trying to plan my visit so I don't miss too much. If that doesn't work out I'll go for the Open Day in Sept. I'd rather go before though, I just want to be more sure about everything.
This is cheesy but I remember when I first visited Oxford (to see a friend who lived there, not at the uni) and I walked past Wadham and thought how much I'd love to go to Oxford..then I was looking up Wadham and saw pictures and I remembered walking past it! freaky.
Mine have been good, I think I scored highly in my S1, just hoping I also do well in C2 as I messed up my C1 in january. I still have another 9 exams to go :frown: Wish I was doing an English AS though!

that's gonna be the main problem for me on the open day, most of the others i'm going with want to do sciences, i think the closest to english that we have is PPE. so i might not to be able to see/look into everything that i want if we do it all as a group, as we're only there for 2 days. it should be good though! i think wadham is a really cool college name, hahaha. it seems like a really nice place as well.
i'm glad your exams are going well. i'm going to do some french revision now, my two french exams are on tuesday.

Ahh right, I do OCR MEI for Maths and AQA for English. To be honest It sounds like you've only made the odd mistake here and there so I wouldn't worry. Good Luck for the rest of your exams.

P.S. I've always hated binomials too. In my exam I worked a co-efficient out to be -2000. :p:

ohh, i'm WJEC for english for some odd reason. i live nowhere near wales. it's a good thing though, if i was AQA then i would have had the english exams on my birthday, and WJEC seem to be quite a decent board. so it's all good!
good luck to you too.

God, good luck with french. How are you revising for it? Mine are in June and I have no idea how to approach it.
There's an English dept Open Day on September 19, and a lot of colleges have their open day that day too. Want to come along? That's the one I'm considering going to though September is kinda late.
Experimental Psychology at Oxford. I'd love to apply to Magdalen, but other colleges are sounding pretty awesome too, so I haven't completely decided yet.

That sounds encouraging. I've heard that the interview (and STEP) seems to be most important selection criterion. Lawl at reading them out. I'll have a hard time making mine not be incredibly cringeworthy.

It's impossible to write a non-cringeworthy personal statement. To be honest, I'd just throw your heart and soul into it and try to ignore how utterly cringing it is. Worked for me anyway :p: (or maybe they gave me an offer because it gave them a good laugh?)

:ottid: The start of my PS was about Tom and Jerry, the end quoted 'The Sound of Music' and they still took me! :p:

Haha, that's so much cooler than mine! I just really really gushed, continued gushing in the Cambridge extra PS bit, and then gushed some more on my SAQ. I honestly felt like such a suck up. And a language nerd, although I am that, secretly

Yeah I'll just have to do that. :p: I guess there's striking a balance between it not being very cliched "maths has always fascinated me since I was very young", but if it's too "different" it'll just look crap.

Ah, we all sound like suck-ups! There's no alternative, unfortunately! Language nerds are cool. Think: you get to spend half a year in Russia! That'll be awesome!

Yeah, well that's the problem. I mostly just made sure that mine was well written. I think it was possibly too heavily academic (there was one very small paragraph about ECs) but I just went on for ages about how much I loved languages. I think it's what they want to hear, I wouldn't worry too much about the cliches!

Ah, sadly yes  We are pretty cool actually! It'll be immense, I can't wait. I'll hopefully be spending the other half in Latin America. Ah, wow, my degree choice rules :p:

wow, that is really late on o.O i will definitely think about going to it if i don't get enough info about the english course itself during the june visit.
i'm mainly using the past papers that we've been given in class, going over the grammatical mistakes i've made on them, revising tenses, practicing the translation and written questions, making lists of impressive phrases to use in the written piece and learning them, etc. i'm listening to french radio and news bulletins on the internet as well. i'm not too worried about the french exams, weirdly, i was more worried about english and i went into those exams already with a full third of the marks from my coursework.

The more I think about it, the more I realize it's too late to go then. argh, it's so frustrating trying to fit stuff in. Really am going to try go in June.
Yeah I'm not as worried about french as I thought i'd be, strangely enough. Well, I'm just worried about my AS exams in general :s-smilie: I think that's why i've been putting off planning an oxford visit - just have too much to think about right now!

My sister didn't think about applying to Oxford until very late on. She had a look around a few colleges a week or two before the applications went in, but it was worth it in a sense, because when it came to the interview, the tutor remembered her!

I don't think I looked around any colleges before coming here, I chose based on the size/location/number of en suite bathrooms info from the prospectus. It turned out well though

That's cool. I'm assuming she got in? (with the smiley face and all )
I'm leaning towards going in early September soon after school starts instead of waiting till the Open Day, and actually still working on possibly going in June after my AS exams finish because I'd prefer that.

What kind of questions are you (those of you going to Open Days/visiting) going to ask? I know closer to the application time I will have lots of questions, but none come to mind right now. The prospectus and website are pretty good in that sense  But yeah, what are your current worries/questions?

Which colleg are you at?

Seems like everyone was right, it doesn't matter too much where you apply - got a reply from admissions and part of it said:
[...] all Oxford colleges have signed up to the "Common Framework on Admissions", which basically means, that it shouldn't matter which college you apply to, as all will assess you consistently. There is also much more coorperation at Oxford [than Cambridge, etc.], which means that many students are interviewed by other colleges, and 20% of those who are successful will win a place at a different college to the one they applied to.
Looking forward to the open day then, I'm not going to think any more about it until I can see the colleges in person.

Mentioned the ELAT too, seems like they may be giving a little more weight year. I'm happy about applying now, was quite a positive email !
