Temp/Casual staff are normally excluded from such things tbh, dunno what the legality is.

Im assuming that its just the permanent staff who will get it. Thats usually the case with things like that.
Normally temporary/casual staff are excluded from things like that. Usually because you are only temporary/casual and arent usually there long enough to qualify for such things.

It's not just ASDA, almost all employers treat the same with their seasonal employees.
Employers have no legal obligation to do this, although it's more of a moral principle but it still doesn't mean you should qualify. Also it is your contract to help to cover the busy period (Christmas is the busiest of the year).
I remember when I started working for New Look, I couldn't qualify for the staff discount until I passed probation (which is 12 weeks).
At Primark, when I needed a store transfer, I couldn't qualify for it until I passed my probation as well.
Basically in my perspective, its like a little incentive when you pass the main hurdle - so only permanent staff will receive these perks and benefits.
