So ParadoxSocks was admitted to a mental health ward yesterday (touch wood it's a short stay) and so we wanted to turn a negative into a positive with this Ask Us Anything.

We won't go in to detail about why she was admitted but thought this might be a good way to break down some of the potential stereotypes surrounding mental health wards.

So ask us anything!

We did! At one of the Support Team meets. We've been together over 2 years and engaged for nearly 1

Seriously? If my boyfriend made a thread like this about me.... I would kill him. Literally.

I'm one of the youngest at 32 as it's not a young person's ward. I'm sharing with a 68 year old woman. There's a pretty even spread of ages though - there's a couple of people much older than me, and a couple my own age.

Thank you! Food is okay. I had rice crispies for breakfast (real actual rice crispies), a chicken and lettuce sandwich with soup for lunch but I skipped on dinner because it's too loud.

They sprinkle us with unlimited biscuits and we can have hot drinks in the day. Supper time is warm milk or hot chocolate with toast or a yoghurt. I have no idea how I'm supposed to be eating so much!

I'm literally here! It's killing the boredom of lying in the dark in my room to be honest.

Ah... Not sure if talking about this so openly on tsr is a good idea. though. People will try to use it against you, at some point, I guarantee it.

There's nothing to use against me. I am unwell and I'm where I need to be. I'm not ashamed and if it comes to bite me on the arse then so be it. Any situation where it could come back around to get me isn't really worth caring about.

If we all took this approach, stigma would never be reduced.

Ehh. Whether you like it or not, there is still plenty of stigma associated with mental health.

Anyway, first thing you are going to do when you get out?

Hope this doesn't seem like a stupid question and I wish you the best of recovery but what are the rules about walking out. Do you have to be locked in your room or can you go outside. Is there like a little garden for you to have a walk around? Sorry if they are stupid questions
