Hi, i will start by saying this. i was very immature in fourth year, and payed for my mistakes by not taking any highers. I now know what i want to do and have completely changed my outlook on education. i need 6 highers AAAAAB. my question is as follows, would i be able to get an offer for this course if i took 5 Highers next year in 6th? The subjects i am planning to take are: higher Maths, English, Human, Crash chemistry and Physics. it seems like a lot of work which i am willing to put in let's say studying everyday at least with a lot Past papers which i find to be effective. This would leave me with 6 highers and if i put the work in at least 5 A's, i am predicted to pass the national 5's i am sitting this year, and higher sociology i got an A in the prelim. so just wondering if maybe there's a good enough chance i would get accepted into Glasgow or Edinburgh uni on a conditional offer.

Thanks ; )

Yeah it's possible. You'd need to work hard though

I’m going to be honest, unless you qualify for a contextual (living in a priority postcode or attend a target school) the likely hood is you will not get a conditional for Glasgow or Edinburgh. They are usually very strict with there 5th year requirements. If you have your heart set on them I would look into college courses that they accept or look at other universities offering your course.

Yes, you could...What the above poster has said about them being very strict with S5 requirements only really applies to the very competitive courses like medicine, vet med, dentistry, etc. For other courses, if you submit a good application then you could get a conditional. You would be a less competitive applicant than people who have more highers by the end of S5, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't apply. With the outcome being heavily reliant on your S6 grades, I'd encourage you to apply to unis with a range of entry requirements for the course you want to apply to. If it doesn't work out, or if you're super bothered about which uni you go to, you could always reapply once you have your S6 grades.
