GCSE Eng language and literature don’t test your ability?

So I’m in year 11 and working on my English coursework. I just wonder whether anyone feel the same as me that the coursework doesn’t really test your ability in English? Like if you try hard enough anyone can get an A*? My predicted grades for English were pretty bad but recently I talked to my teacher about how do I get good grades and she gave me a list of techniques (which are not really difficult at all) and said I’ll get A* if I use them.
