Store left a security tag on my dress

Hiya everyone,

Hope you can help, I'm kind of worried about this. Basically I bought a dress from Jane Norman about a month ago and have had it hanging up in my wardrobe ever since. I've just noticed however that it's actually got a big bulky security device on it that the cashier just forgot to remove!

The worrying thing is that I don't have the receipt to the dress anymore, so if I go back to the store will they think I've stolen it and confiscate the dress or something? I also don't like the idea of it beeping when I go through the doors (though god knows why it didn't beep the first time).

Anyone else had this, shall I just go back without a receipt?

do you have a credit/debit card statement? If they hassle you, ask them to cross reference their records with your statement.

try taking it off yourself? or is it one that has coloured dye in it?

Phone first and ask to speak to the store manager and explain what happened. Then you can arrange a time to go in etc

that happened to me once....they were really nice about it and took it off for me
but, it wasn't as long as a month...about a couple of weeks til i realised
:p:

Use a magnet to take the pin out

this happened with a dog collar I got for my dog, I just dropped a dumbbell onto it a few times and it broke off. wouldnt suggest that if its on a dress though.

Personally I would attack it with a pair of wire cutters. Failing that, I would find a bigger pair of wire cutters.

They use magnets for it in the store.

Unless its more complicated than that, you shouldn't need a very powerful magnet to do it tbh.

i once stole a nice expensive shirt from a shop and obviously the tag was on it when i got home. i had to use scissors and some tools to take it out and it left a hole in the shirt...which my mum somehow sew up

Did you pay by card? If you did take the bank statement in with you and I'm sure that'd be fine.

Reply 11

This has happened to me before. I took it back and they were fine about it. Like posts have said, if you paid by card then take a statement in and just make sure you take it bag in the right carrier bag

couldn't you cut a tiny hole where it is and just sew it back up?

I would definitely NOT try and remove it yourself. You could totally ruin your dress. I agree with what someone has already said....phone the store direct, explain the situation and they will more than likely happy to take it off for you. Get hunting for the receipt (and never throw away receipts for something you haven't worn yet!!!!!) or credit card statement to prove you did pay.

This happened to me and somehow I got the jeans home, put them on and went out shopping wearing them without noticing, then suddenly realised when I was in the middle of a shop! I just pulled it out myself, wasn't difficult, did leave a small hole though (and then I put the tag in my bag and it set off all the alarms in whsmith, lol, v.embarassing having to explain why I had it!)

As its a dress (guess its flimsier material than jeans) and from an expensive shop I'd try taking it back - I guess I'd just trust in the fact the shop wouldnt think anyone would be dumb enough to steal a dress and then take it back to have the tag removed!

Do NOT remove it yourself lol. Usually the ones on clothes have ink in them, it'll spatter and your dress would be ruined.

It'd ruin the dress

just take it off with a magnet, thats how they do it in the stores. place the meal part on the magnet and lift the plastic part. if there's a dye device on it the same thing will apply, the dye only explodes if it goes off on the sensors in the store and even then you wouldn't have been able to make it home from the shops without that happening already anyway

working in a shop this has happened to me, and i just took the tag off for the lady, and by the quality of jane norman i doubt the staff there will suspect you, just go in and explain to them, taking a copy of card statements is a good idea if you have them. No one pays attention if you bleep on the way in!

this happened to me at jane norman too! just went back, they took it off for me no problem, didnt even ask to see the receipt  i just explained what happened. i did have the receipt with me though just in case.
