If I have selected another course (e.g. Chemical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering etc.) but I have the required grades to study medicine would I still be considered in Clearing for Medicine? or would my application be rejected?

Sorry but Medicine doesn't actually appear in Clearing as it's such a competitive course. If it's what you really want, I would advise getting some work experience over the summer, taking a gap year and reapplying in next year's cycle. Good luck!

Medicine was in clearing last year. However, you are broadly correct in that the OP would face an uphill battle to prove their commitment to medicine via that route.

Whoops thanks for correcting me! Seems shocking that it would be given how hard it is to get a place through the normal route

Yes it is indeed surprising. Places went to those who had applied elsewhere unsuccessfully, iirc. Perhaps it will be different this year.

Perhaps - well good luck OP, it seems I was a little hasty in deterring you!

Not really. If there are clearing places for medicine again this year I believe they would again go to those who had already applied unsuccessfully to that subject. For the OP, I would suggest 2020...
