My life is really a mess. I’m 18 and I am maxed out my credit card, overdraft, and I’m overdue my student accommodation payment which is £648. I really don’t know what to do, I moved away in hopes that I would get a job in my new town but every interview I’ve had I’ve been rejected. I can’t even afford to buy my uni books. I have a single mum- who gives me what she can but it is no more than £40 a month. I have no other family that support me. Can someone please tell me if there is anyway I can get out of this mess. I am awake staring at the ceiling every night thinking about this and it’s making me feel so depressed. Honestly, the only reason I haven’t killed myself is because how devastated my mum would be. Please help me I hate this

Have you tried reaching out to the university? They might have hardship funds available to help you.

Get an appointment with Citizens Advice too and have a look at their pages about debt - they're free and very very good.

Also, please make sure you speak to the university counselling service or see your GP about your thoughts. You're still young so your debts can't be that large. There are solutions!!

My debts are £500 on credit card and £500 overdraft. It’s a lot when you have no income coming in at all, I haven’t spoke to the uni but I’m just scared to incase they say they can’t help and then I’m stuck in this hole of debt forever. I just feel like there’s nothing I can do I’ve tried and tried to get a job And i genuinely can’t

You need to speak to the university. You really need to ask and get as much help as you can. Speak to the university AND the students union for help.

Book an appointment with Citizens Advice as well.

Speak to your uni. You have nothing to lose.
