What age do people live in halls?

Okay so this is my first time posting, I'm 22 and planning on doing an Access to Science course at college (equivalent to 3 A-Levels) then hoping to go to uni in 2020 (when I will be turning 24 soon after)

I have some friends at different uni's now who have all assured me they know older people who live in halls. But I wanted to know if anyone on here knows of (or are) any older people in halls? And if so how old and how well do they socialise with everyone else? Do they generally just chill with "normal" aged uni students or find older students to hang out with?

I really want to be able to meet people and make friends but I don't want to be known as "the weird old lady in flat 13". Also commuting isn't really an option where I'm from as most decent unis are an hour+ drive away and I'd really like to get the full uni experience anyway.
I'll be 26 and living in halls starting this September. My chosen uni have a mature students day where mature students go a week before freshers to meet other mature students and get a 'buddy' who helps them throughout the first year.

I plan on just hanging with course/flat mates, but I don't drink, so I don't plan on that. More just chilling around the flat, playing games. I don't suppose it really matters who you hang out with, tbh. I guarantee most of them don't give a rat's ass about your age.

Thanks, this made me feel a bit more positive about it, I didn't know anything about that mature student week, I'll have to ask about it when I start applying!

I keep getting told "no one will care how old you are, stop worrying" but it's nice to hear it from someone that's not a friend/family 😂 (it's like your mum telling you you're pretty you know..)

It's worth going to any mature student talks that take place at the open days you attend. They're really informative, particularly in terms of financial aid that you get (for example, my firm has a grant specifically for people that get in via access courses of £1000 per year.)

Nah, they definitely won't care. So long as you're not a massive prude/bit of a penis, then it isn't likely to bother anyone. Dependent on the uni and your accommodation, you'll be able to find your flatmates early and get talking to them. It's a great way of making friends before even getting to uni.

Also, some Unis have “mature flats” for older students so you could ask your future Unis about that?
So basically here's what you need to be aware of:

If you end up at a top-ranked place (RG) top 1-35ish you will have younger kids in halls. These tend to recruit more high achievers who tend to take the classical route to education.

For example I attend Nottingham uni and am was 27 when I started.... now 28 (2nd Year) and I have no issues with it at all, but ultimately decided against living in halls first year and went for self catered private accommodation very near to campus. Partially also because its hella expensive, and it also tends to be quieter in 2nd year private accommodations and frankly cheaper. Would I have been fine in Halls yes, and frankly I'm now doing my second year abroad in Malaysia and am living in halls and all my m8s are 19-21 lol. Its actually pretty fun being around young people, ultimately your older but not nearly enough to be too old. I can still relate to alot of what's happening.

If you are going to a lower ranked place you will obviously have more mature students and halls will be more mixed. Tending to mid late 20s and there's its more normal.

My tip would be ask yourself,

Do you need to party in first year? Is it your focus... Then you definitely want to be in halls.

If it's not your main focus... The best place to hang out consistently is actually the library, that's where I ended up making the most useful friends (3rd years) who ended up teaching me how to university lol.

Ultimately you will make friends on or off campus. But your not too old for halls at all.

Thanks this helped a lot actually, I'd like to party, I feel like I missed out on a lot of this by not going when all my friends did and is a small part of the reason I actually want to go (I guess FOMO) but I probably won't party as much as the 18/19 year olds. Still I guess that means I should probably go into halls?
Yes one of my friends is 27 and fits in perfectly, I wouldn’t say 22 is that old tbh-you should be fine, most people will not really care.

Go for halls. You'll have a much more lively time.
