Are people intimidated by highly intelligence people

I have freakish levels of intelligence, developed environmentally and genetically (something to do with a high peripheral nerve conduction velocity). I get things quicker than most people. Things click more smoothly: I think very abstractly about things. I'm able to pick out humour, maths, and linguistics (anything embedded with abstraction) very well. I do think however that i know too much in life and people are equally amused and intimidated by me. I have weird knacks such as abnormal levels of concentration, focus, attention to detail, intellect etc. I know that being intelligent is a great predictor of long term life success but i cant shake off the intimidation tag i come with. Is this a cause for concern at all?

If this is a cause for concern for you, then you are not that intelligent so rest assured.

Thanks for that. I dont truly believe its a cause for concern per se, i think its merely my defence mechanism at work. Sort of how its better to be sceptical than naive

i dont get how its ironic lol i inadvertently wrote intelligence people instead of intelligent peopler
I think there are two forms of intelligent people- those that belittle others for not comprehending topics to the same level as themselves, and those that are willing to educate people in a nice way but are still open to learning new things. You are intelligent but not the MOST intelligent. Yes you understand abstract ideas but you may lack somewhere else, I find those with a high IQ and exam scores have very little common sense, and I wont say you're the same but there's only so much room in the brain to learn before older, unused connections are lost. For example, my maths teacher told me about his lecturer who spent so many years working on his theory (basically became a hermit) that he forgot how currency worked. There's also the problem where if you don't practice a language often you begin to forget certain words.
But correlation isn't causation so there are those gifted with both intelligence and common sense. And to answer your question, yes, people are intimidated by those of a higher intelligence because we are taught that everything is a competition, from who has the most wealth to applying for certain jobs. They see you as a threat but if you're kind and don't act like you're better than them, you will find friends. Some will stay intimidated or jealous but those people aren't worth any time/effort.
I REALLY hope this is a joke
Personally if you were to get in a converstaion with me, brag about what you know and I feel belittled I would aviod you like the plague.
However, if you can treat me as an equal and we can have a normal converstaion without me getting belittled I would love to talk and get to know you

Have you ever talen a supervised IQ, such as the ones offered by Mensa, and what did you score if you did?

Saying all these things about yourself doesn't mean as much to me as knowing your IQ score in an official test.

I second that.
Wouldn't say they're intimidated, they just don't think you're cool.
Just as a verification of your intelligence and abnormal focus, what grades have you got throughout school? GCSE’s, A-Level’s etc? It’s possible that you are unusually intelligent. But like a University or employer, I want evidence of this intellect and focus based on grades, or achievements. Do you care to share?
I will neither discuss my level of intelligence (top 99.995% percentile), nor do I ever say, “The more I know, the more I know very little.” What I always say, ”The more I know, I know there’s more to learn.”

So, yes, we never stop learning. My brain is a sponge. Life would become dull if I weren’t constantly being faced with finding solutions to new challenges.

The primary proposition of the comment, forgoing the inflated ego, was people are ‘intimidated by highly intelligent people.’

From my own experience, I concur they are. This is not only observable, it’s been verbalized to me by many people who have been, as well as the only factor leading to being ostracized from various study groups.

“A group of stupid people collectively treat an intelligent person amongst them as though he’s the idiot amongst enlightened minds.”
