Hi. My boyfriend and I have been with each other for two years now. We met in the first year of uni, and have been living with each other for a year. He had always said from the beginning after uni he will move to my home town (I get really bad home sickness and want to work in the area I grew up in). Recently he has changed his mind and said he thinks he wants to stay where he is from, 2 hours away. Due to the nature’s of our jobs, if this was the case we would never have time for each other as our work seceduals would clash. I have told him if he wants to move home I will support that, however I am really concerned about how it will work. I feel that it would be harder in the long run to stay with someone I miss so much and can never see. I have thought about moving with him, however I had always planned to stay at home and there are jobs I have been wanted to apply for here. Any advice would be appreciated.

If you are both planning on staying in your respective home towns, you need to be honest with yourselves and discuss whether it is possible to maintain your relationship. It isn't impossible, but even a strong relationship can be tested by distance and not seeing each other a lot. If you both feel you are committed to each other and are willing to make a go of it, you can still stay in touch via Skype, WhatsApp or a simple phone call, and arrange to meet up when you have time (you mention that your work schedules would clash - would you be working every weekend too?).

Whilst you are discussing things now, it is perfectly possible that your plans may change, for example, your partner might find work somewhere else from his home town. I do think that it is a conversation that the two of you should have though.
