Seems like I'm in the same position as you :P How are you preparing for the ChemEng interview?

Trying to go over the Chemistry, Maths and Physics topics I mentioned in my SAQ and trying Natural Sciences questions I found on the net...I'm also trying to read a little further into Chemical Engineering  what r u doing and have you found Chemical Engineering questions? Best of luck! What day is your interview?

I'm doing the same, just going over chemisty and physics topics but still no luck with the chemeng questions. What chemical engineering things have you read? The only thing I looked at is fluid dynamics :/ Have you looked at any general engineering questions? Not sure if they're anything similar :s-smilie:

Good luck to you too! Mine is on the 16th at Queens', what about you?

I applied for chemical engineering via NatSci and have my interviews next week, 2 physical science interviews and one on chemical enginnering.

Would anyone be able to give me an idea of the sort of question I might expect? Are they likely to be numerial physics/engineering questions or qualitative questions on ChemEng processes?

The only knowledge of ChemEng I have comes from extra reading, so would they expect me to already know a fair bit about the subject?

If anyone could answer some of those questions I would be forever grateful!

I definitely agree on going over our Chemistry and Physics and also doing some Maths...I read a couple of developments in the energy sector-like for applications of chemical engineering and going to go through some recent science magazines for A'Level students...I saw 2 engineering questions from a random website but they were multiple choice...not too sure if it'll be anything similar :/ A friend who applied for Chemical Engineering there said that she only had an Engineering interview since she was applying through General Engineering and all they asked abt chemistry is how it was taught at her school! Mine is on the 12th at Pembroke College..feeling the nerves now :P Best of luck

Yeah I found some general engineering questions but none of them are specific to chem eng :/ So right now I'm just hoping that the interview will be nice and simple :P

Best of luck for tomorrow! I'm sure you'll do well

Hello everyone! I have just finished year 12 and i was thinking of applying to Cambridge for chemical engineering. I am a girl and an international, but have studied in the Uk this year. Which college would people recommend? I am mostly interested in good college tutorials, hence a good engineering department of tutors specific to the college, and the best chances if getting in. I heard King's college is lacking in female students? Any recommendations? I heard some colleges don't particularly admit students from private schools. I'd like to stir clear of those as i'm attending such a school. Good accommodation is also important for me.

Hello,

I am applying to Cambridge for chemical engineering, entry 2015.
Do any current students have any tips for personal statements, reading, interview etc..

Much appreciated

It depends which route you're applying via, engineering or natural sciences.

Hey people! I am also applying for Chemical Engineering via Natural Sciences.. I'm applying as an international student.. Can't decide between Jesus and Gonville and Caius.. Any recommendations?

Hi guys! I'm an international applicant wishing to do chemical engineering in cambridge... but i have some doubts for this course..
1. CEng is the only course listed in Cambridge prospectus without mentioning the number of applicants/number of offers/applicants per place... Rather the applicants are classified under natsci or engineering according to their first year course... So what is my chance of getting in, from a purely statistical Point of view? similar to Natsci/engineering?
2. It seems Cambridge is significantly harder to get in compared to oxford (At least for my school). Do they have a big difference for CEng?

Thanks very much! and good luck for those applying this year :smile:

3. Although university-wide stats are unavailable it seems that most colleges only offer a few places (single-digit) for Chem Engineering each year. Does it mean the course is very competitive, or its because not many people apply for it???

Hey there! Even I am an international applicant! I'll try to answer your questions!
Now see in Cambridge in order to study chemical engineering you need to be a student of general engineering or Natural Sciences First! Like chemical engineering the course starts from the second year and you need to choice one of the either paths for the first year.. The website says that both the paths are equally good at preparing students and that the university has pretty much the same number of students from both the paths.
Now I don't really know the exact stats but I've read the website quiet a few times and it says that the University of Cambridge in all has about 50 to 60 students for chemical engineering.. That's what I recall! So that's why it's like about 2 or at the most 4 students for chemEngg at every college!
It's true that the course is really competitive.. Like all kinds of engineering courses are but chemical engineering isn't something many people opt for.. Like people usually go for mechanical or electrical and with the recent boom in the IT industry for software engineering! But that doesn't make chemEngg any less competitive especially at Cambridge! If you see it's a pretty specialised and well focused course!
I don't really know much about Oxford because I haven't really ever studied it's website really carefully.. I do agree that Cambridge is more difficult to get in.. And better :P well frankly I'm biased towards Cambridge cause I've been in CIE curriculum for 5 years or something like from year 8! So :P

Is it essential to have chemical industry related work exp for Ceng via NatSci?

Reply 157

One of my classmates had contacted a JCR member who is doing chemical engineering.. She asked him the same question and the reply was that for undergraduate courses work experience isn't really necessary..
But in my opinion.. I think it's different if you are applying post A level or after a gap year like u need to justify what u did after A level!

Can anyone who has had a Chem Eng Via Engineering interview provide any info please. Im applying Corpus and wouldnt mind chatting to fellow applicants (i.e compare notes on prep etc.)

Did u actually? How did u make one? please tell me...:colondollar:
