Eating Disorders Awareness Week

Hello friends

Today is eating disorders awareness week!

It is designed to educate people about eating disorders, raising awareness and fighting the myths and misunderstandings regarding various health complexes regarding eating disorders.

The most common eating disorders are:

-Anorexia Nervosa: were you are not eating enough, trying to keep your weight as low as possible.

-Bulimia: you may binge on food were you take excessive amounts, restrict what you eat or partake in a lot of exercise to restrict you from gaining weight.

-Binge Eating Disorder: were you consume too much food and lose control over the amount you eat.

-Other specific feeding and eating disorder: were your symptoms do not match of the above 3, but it is still serious.

What causes it?

-The individual may be a perfectionist, they may have low self esteem or anxiety
-The individual may be overly concerned with their appearance
-Their job may pressure them such as being a sports person or a model
-There may have been harsh criticism surrounding the way they look, their body weight

Eating disorders can happen to make people feel better, to gain control.

They may have had bad experiences, harsh criticism so they feel the need to restrict themselves in an extreme way again to feel better.
