I have an offer for business management and was wondering if you’re glad you chose Exeter over another uni and whether you like the course

Business Management with a year in industry at Streatham Campus Exeter Uni.

I am glad I chose Exeter, the only thing I didn’t really consider was the distance from where I’m from. Exeter is kinda out of the way. I’m from the south east, so it takes about 4-5hours in total by train. So definitely check train times and prices of all uni locations !!!

I chose Exeter over Nottingham, and that was purely on the basis that Nottingham’s business school is not on the main campus. I just found it really disjointed from the uni and it was definitely not as nice as main campus.

I really enjoy the course at Exeter, however definitely research your optional modules, some are VERY maths orientated. The course as a whole has much more maths than I was anticipating, but perhaps that’s just all business courses.

I recommend not taking Basic Quantitive Methods or introduction to Finance if you don’t like Maths for your optional modules.

I really recommend going to official open days, especially subject talks. I found these really useful in determining my firm choice. Visiting the uni more than once is also a big help.

Finally, if you haven’t already, consider doing a 4 year course with the year industry. This is exactly the same as the standard degree, you just get do work for your 3rd year. Really will improve your chances of a grad job and will give you loads of experience that others won’t get. AND you get paid minimum £14,000 !!!! - I know Birmingham offer the placement year, but I don’t think Nottingham or Bristol do, but I would have to double check.

I hope this helps xxxxx Good Luck xxx

If you don't recommend those modules, which would you recommend that isn't entirely revolved around maths?

If you don’t want optional modules that are heavily maths orientated just stay away from finance and economics modules. ( however you won’t be able to avoid it as some modules are compulsory)The management modules are your best option. Make sure you check whether there is an exam or if it’s just course work and pick which one works for you.

During the summer once you have firmed your offer, they will release the sign up for optional modules. Make sure you do this as soon as it opens as places are limited. I chose mine about a week late and had to change all my options as they were no longer available.
