IB Japanese Ab Initio Exam, 19th May!!

Hey everyone!! Is everyone prepared for Japanese tomorrow?? I haven't revised at all yet but am starting tonight and possibly pulling an all nighter!!

I'm not too worried about the exam as such, mainly just the kanji X___X the reading paper can be a bi**h when you don't know the kanji!!

Anyone got any questions etc??

P.S this is my last exam WOOOO

hey! I'm doing it for uni level as well! Where do you study? I'm hoping to go leeds! Can't wait, i have previous experiene with japanese but the IB is the only qualification i will have for it! =D

we need to know about 300-400 kanji i think I can't remember...maybe its about 250...

Vocab i'm not sure if there is a definitive number :s-smilie:

And grammar need to know things like: て form、 た form、たりたり、 つもり、 たい form、 かもしれません、思います、ほうが/より。。。

quite a few more i think just those are off the top of my head ^^

Hey im doing the exam tommorow as well. I'm alright with all the Kanji, but im worried about not being able to understand certain words..i mean there is only SO much vocab one can memorise, yet it never seems to be enough and everytime i open a pastpaper there seems to be several words i dont know. ah well.

Exam on thursday >P Im like u, afraid that i dont know the kanji so I cant read the question. haha
lol I didn't study for the Japanese Ab Initio (I'm a May 2007 candidate) and I got a six. You should be fine.

haha how in the world did you manage that?
my sensei wanted me to get a seven and she said she reckons I could if I just put in the time to study. She said I was at a six level so I was like NYEH I'm fine with that and didn't bother getting that seven I could've gotten. xD

I would like what text books u guys have been using as well. We do not use a text book at all. My teacher thinks that the text books would not help so we do not have any, but I would like to buy one if someone could recommend one.

so come on guys, can u answer?
also, how did the test go?

Hey! We don't use a text book either :s we use like paper textbooks made by our school! really useful though to be honest!!

Don't know if there is a specific IB Japanese book?

The exam was pretty alright!!

The reading paper didn't have many kanji in which was good, i could read it all pretty well!

but i totally forgot to include cultural references in the writing paper damn it!!!

AHHHHHHH

I have my IB mock tomorrow for Ab Initio. It's depressingly important too, seeing as I have to prove an ability with languages to study Japanese (Ab Initio again!) at Cambridge and these exams determine my predicted grade.

Having had only 1 year of study so far, I have been presented a list of questions that will be on my writing paper (In English) so I can prepare before hand, but I have no idea how long I should make my answers. It is all well and good being told to write a self introduction, but a that could be, "Hi I'm Jon" or a complete autobiography...

Any idea how much I should be doing?

Hope your actual exam went well!
My reading mock was a disaster. I couldn't really understand anything, and thought koko was 'Now' rather than 'here' Ended up translating the first sentence as "Now I live in a fish" and that threw me for the entire thing *sigh*

For the self introduction (even though i am still in IB 1):

Our teacher told us that the self intoduction should contain all the stuff about ur age, where u were born, where u life, what grade in school u go to, what subjects u study, what subject is ur favourite, what hobbys do u have, what hobbys did u use to have, in case u have a daily routine write about that as well, write a little bit (not too much!) about ur family eg. work of ur parents / siblings etc. And also write about ur career goals and ur strength and weaknesses ( i think there was still a little bit more but cant remember).

Hope that helps u. By the way do u study out of a japanese book or do u just study what the teacher tells u?

We study what the teacher tells us, and she creates a lot of worksheets herself. She is really devoted to us doing well though, which I am so grateful for. I don't know if there is an IB Japanese textbook available, is there?

I dont think that there is, well I could not find one anywhere. My teacher is really good as well but still I would like having a textbook.
