I have selection interview at the AFCO in a month's time. Should I take out my tongue piercing now or later or am I allowed to keep it on?

I’d say definitely take it off just for the sake of professionalism, bc the way you dress/carry yourself is like the first impression of you.

You can obviously take it off like the day before your interview, but if you want to start getting a bit used to being without it for the interview (lol dk if that’s actually useful??) then sure take it off now?

It’s up to you at the end of the day, whatever helps you feel comfortable.. but I kept all my ear piercings in for mine and I have eight (four through each ear.)

It looks more professional at interview without the piercing, but at this stage you're still a civilian and only certain military rules on dress apply, eg for the RAF, the tattoo policy and no piercings where the hole won't close up. Then again, you'll have to get used to doing without the piercing at some point further down the line.

At my AFCO we had a young man with long hair interview for the RAF. It had taken him a while to grow so he didn't want it chopped off if he wasn't going to get through selection. It was fastened back and he looked smart so no problems; he got it cut short for PRTC.

Do you work in the armed forces and have you kept your piercings?

Ok thanks. I'll miss it.

No I meant should I take it off now because if I get accepted I'll eventually have to take it off. I think I'll get a transparent bar and take it off before PRTC as someone said.

No body piercings can be worn on duty or standby for duty, or representing the RAF, other than a pair of plain gold studs for women.

Piercings etc can be worn in your own time so long as they are not going to cause big holes, like those ear lobe stretcher things. Ewww!

I recommend taking it out just in case if your interviewer sees it and it might not be suitable for the interview

I haven’t even gone through PRTC yet, that’s my next step. I’ll find out then if I have to remove all my piercings and stuff I guess.

Where have you applied to and for what role, if you don't mind me asking?
