I know that the English folio word count is 1300, but is it true that you are allowed to go over by 10%?

You are automatically penalised by 3 marks if you exceed the word count by 10% so technically as long as you’re not over by more than that you should be fine. However you have to put the word count on the sheet and it might give the marker a slightly bad impression before even reading your pieces if they know you knowingly exceeded the word count.

You are allowed a 10% buffer as far as I am aware without being penalised or so am I lead to believe. This means 1430 is the absolute maximum.
