Hello All,

I have been doing some research on the Police Now schemes that have run over the past few years, using this website, contacting Police Now and reading current officer's opinions on Reddit (r/policeuk), I have also spoken to a serving Police Constable and Seargent about the scheme.

My main worry is around current serving officers opinions on Police Now recruits, especially recruits into detective constable. There seems to be a culture of current officers that have joined the Police the "traditional" way, thinking Police Now recruits are not up to scratch due to their lack of policing experience. I even read about a Police Now recruit being introduced by her colleagues as "a Police Now Officer" to embarrass her.

Although respect is earned in all aspects of life, it concerns me that there will be an inherent lack of respect for recruits taking the Police Now route into the police, especially straight into specialist roles such as DC.

Does anyone have any experiences or thoughts on the matter? Is anyone applying for this scheme?

I am looking to apply and worry about this too. I’m hoping that they’ll just get over it eventually. No harm in applying and and see if you get on before worrying about this.
I can’t find any threads from people applying to this cohort though.

Yes totally agree. I guess it's something recruits will have to deal with.

Yes, can't find any threads for this cohort, hence my post. Which force are you thinking of applying to?

Are you nervous? I get quite nervous at the prospect of changing career.

The numeracy and verbal reasoning tests. They give you 5 days to complete them. I’m extremely nervous about changing career. However I feel this job would be so much more rewarding . I haven’t applied for a new job in years so very nervous about the application process :ashamed2:

OK, 5 days isn't bad. Definitely doable

I have had 3 jobs since graduating 4 years ago, so I'm not too bad with applying. I just feel nervous about how long the recruitment process is, online tests, fitness, vetting, assessment day etc.

Then there's the 12-week residential training from September. I guess it's just like going off to uni again!

From what I have read on old threads some seem to go through the process quickly so fingers crossed. I’m hoping if I get through the academy isn’t too far away from home 😚

Police Now are registered in Shoreditch, London. I assume it would be relatively near them?

I wonder how many people are taken on for each force. I still haven’t received anything from them yet. Have you received your results yet?

Yeah I have no idea how competitive it’ll be, I think the 2 years work experience is a good move though. No I haven’t heard anything on the online test results and I sat them last Wednesday - I reckon it’ll be about a week longer, I was so keen with getting my application in haha

Hi all.

I've recently applied for this. I've had my email saying I have five days to submit the maths and verbal ability test. I'm really concerned for the math test - what percentages have you guys got in order to pass? And does anyone know if a maths test is repeated on the assessment center day?

Thanks

HiI’m not sure what you need to pass. I found the maths one quite hard 🙈. From reading other threads the maths test wasn’t repeated in the assessment centres for the neighbourhood police so hopefully not. I submitted mine on Monday but haven’t had my results yet 😬.Good luck with yours 🤞🏻

Oh ok! Thanks for your help! I've read the thread and saw you're applying for SW Police as well, so it's nice to hear from someone applying to the same area! What kind of questions did they ask? Was it fairly similar to the practice? And good luck!
