Hello,

I need a grade 6 in GCSE Maths to get into the university I want to go to. I was just wondering the best way to achieve this and for those who have obtained a grade 6, to give me some information on how they did it.

My exam board is AQA, I will be taking my exams in May and June. Help is very much needed.

Thanks

Hello,

Here are a few tips:
- Challenge yourself, don't just look at the answer, try again before. Use the answers (if you have them) only to check
- Enjoy it
- be positive
- work out lots of pastpapers, and l mean lots.
- try different methods for questions

Hey,

what grade are you working at currently?

My advice would be to use past papers, but make sure you know the content inside out before doing the papers.

It's important that you learn the content first. I advise that you get through a revision guide like this as fast as you can: https://www.amazon.co.uk/REVISE-Edex...ateway&sr=8-12. Then correct and learn from any mistakes you've made using this workbook: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Revise-Edex...gateway&sr=8-8

Then i'd advise you to go through all the exam material you have for the new spec by doing the papers under timed conditions and honestly marking it afterwards. Aim to surpass the grade 7 boundary when you're doing these practice exams so that you'd be much more likely to achieve at least a grade 6 in the real exam.

If you have time, you can aim for grade 8s and 9s by going through every question on this website: http://bland.in/

You'll need to dedicate a lot of time to getting through these resources because good grades don't come easily, but it's certainly worth it in the long-run.

Thanks, do you think it is a good idea to list all the topics in each past paper to get an idea of what will crop up?

Hello, thankyou for your response. Does it matter if I work from an Edexcel work book? I am doing the AQA papers.

I will look at the website!

Do you think that a Grade 6 is achievable if I dedicate myself enough from now til May?

I am currently working at a grade 4 and can do some grade 5 content. I have made a list of all the things I find the most difficult and think I should get a private tutor aswell.

Also, there is loads and loads of content, should I prioritise some over others? I am doing AQA by the way

You'll be fine even if you use the Edexcel workbook- I did both Edexcel and AQA exam papers when preparing for my GCSEs. I had no trouble doing pretty much all the AQA questions, even though I learned from an Edexcel workbook
In fact, I was finding the AQA exam papers to be slightly easier than Edexcel! I achieved a grade 9 for the actual GCSE.

Grade 8 is honestly still achievable, so of course you can still get at least a 6!

A private tutor is a very good idea! It will definitely help you get higher grades.

Set yourself targets e.g Today i'll finish 4 chapters in maths. Try to finish the book by mid-april, so divide the total number of topics in the book by how many days you have left until mid april, and do that many topics each day.
