You can not realise that what you are feeling is depression. Depression has a lot of symptoms other than feeling sad, but that tends to be what people think of it as. Like quite often depression can present more as being tired or not bothered with anything.
For a long time I didn't realise I had depression because I thought I was just going through "teenage angst" or being a wuss about normal feelings. It took me a long time to realise that I wasn't meant to feel how I did.
