Bare in mind I haven’t properly studies for any exam before and knowing I have a essay based exam where I have to memorise and know what I’m talking about seems hard. Any tips?

Which subject?
What level?

Essays are straightforward, they just take practice. They ask a question and you construct an essay that answers it by identifying the issues, supplying evidence and making some evaluations. Less memorising and more understanding.

Get some revision books or one on essay writing and practice. Your bookshop or amazon will have them.

ali abdaal on youtube did psychology in his third year of medicine, so im guessing pretty similar to watch you have to do

he made essay plans for every essay he could think of (he did about 80 but this got him first in his year at cambridge so probably more than you really have to do haha). then he made a flashcard out of all of them until he could remember 80 essays worth of case studies (?) quotes information arguments (whatever you'd put in an essay)

If it’s an essay I would ask a teacher for a structure or watch YouTube videos how to structure them that’s what I do for English.
