Coventry, Kenilworth or LS?

Hi guys,

Just going to do a postgrad next year in WBS and was looking at the off-campus accommodation in the 3 above locations.Coventry looks like it could be a more livelier place whereas LS looks like a prettier student town. Which place would you recommend?

Also, how much would an annual bus ticket for travel to uni from these places cost.

Thanks!

Very interested by that too
i believe the bus pass is 240 for leamington probs less for coventry. Pretty much all students live in leamington, coventry is the uni town only for the coventry uni students. A handful live there and the off-campus first year accomodation is over there. But in terms of nice bars clubs (not amazing but still) got to recommend leamington-spa.
the coventry bus pass costs 181

That is very inaccurate. Students split themselves between Leamington and Coventry. Leamington has a nice high street and you may find more Warwick student there. Leamington is further away from the university, it is ok if you have a car but more of trek if you travel by bus. Most students who live in Coventry live in north Earlsdon. Earlsdon had quite a nice feel to it and is a shorter distance to the university. There are a few students who live in Kenilworth but not that many.

If you get the chance visit Earlsdon and South Leamington so you can weigh up which is the better place.

Is the bus line direct from South Leamington and the Uni? And how long of a ride is it?

Yes, and about 30-40 minutes, depending on time of day.

Closer to 20-30 depending on time of day.

HOLY MOLLY. Are you guys being serious right now? Crap. I hope I don't have any 8am classes next year.
The earliest you'll have is a 9:00. To be honest the bus journey really isn't that bad. Coming back there's almost always one waiting at the bus stop so you don't have to wait around for ages, and I agree that the journey's much more like 20-30 mins most of the time.

Leamington is SOOOOOO much nicer than Coventry. They are almost incomparable.

not much, nearly all the first years i know (bar 2 houses worth) are moving into leamington or the surrounding areas. I htink its fair to say it is preferred to coventry and that coventry is pretty much **** comparably to anywhere else you may decide in the locality.

I have lived in both areas and have given a balanced opinion of both. You have just lived in Leamington.

i actaully have never lived in either. but based on reviews in the boar, student recommendations, statistics of students in each, i've come to conclude that leamington spa, is best.

Andy, shut the hell up, you havent lived in either, so dont make oppininated oppions based on that higly reliable source of information "The Boar."

Anyway, what is written above is inaccurate and wrong. All my best mates are living in Cov (Earlsdon) next year, and quite a few people I know who have signed for houses in LS are wishing they had got houses in Cov. LS has nice bars, yeah, but crap clubs. I dont like Smack or the other one... cannae remember its name just now, and are out in Cov at least twice a week during non exam times, so decided to live in Cov because it was closer to uni and closer to where I go out for entertainment. 10 minuet bike ride to uni and about 10 mins to Cov city centre from my house next year. Contary to popular belief, Earlsdon is safe and friendly, it has a nice high street and a nice pub, as well as several cafe bars. Plus its cheaper. OK its not as visaully appealing as Leam, but I will bet that most of the people who live in Leam are there because they are upperclass snobs who havent really experianced Cov and are too stuck up to even consider it.

I think you lost it with the final sentence...

Lost what, yeah ok I got a bit "over-excited" when I wrote that, but it does annoy me when people bang on about how much better Leam is without even taking a look at Cov. They just think that "oh no, I cant live there its Coventry." If youve looked rationally at both places and decided to live in Leam fair enough, but alot (or maybe even most) people havent looked rationally at both places.

Leamington is definitely nicer to live in, though to be honest south leam is probably worse than earlsdon... though I still would choose leam over cov just because it is generally a really nice town.

Re: people wishing they'd gone for cov after signing for houses in leam - loads of people who go for cov end up totally regretting their decisions because everyone else they know is in leam.

Thing is OP you are going for postgrad which is very different!!! How would you choose who to live with do you have to find people on your own? What are your priorities - close and easy access to uni for studying or do you want somewhere with good nightlife? Is campus accomodation definitely off the cards?

CAMPUS FTW!!!

It's not the suggestion that people don't look rationally at both, it's the upper-class snobs bit that's flawed.

I don't understnad your argument, its ridiculous coventry is a ****hole. it's like a given, you 'send people to coventry' its an expression relating the crapness of the place. In contrast leamington is a nice place, its safer there are bars there aren't as many chavs. Your friends may be living there, thats great but at the end of the day the warwick university student town is leamington, which is where most students live. Who cares what source i base it on, i don't need a social anthropologist to study the two towns and lend me to conclude that cov is ****ter. i know it is. i've visited the two. and rent isn't realy that different, i'm paying 52 qid a week in leamington...
