Why does this not surprise me.
Why are you surprised? We have a big issue with knife crime across the country. I think there needs to be a solution to tackle it.

How do you think this should be solved?

How would you attach GPSs to all (or any) knives?
Will I need to register all the knives in my kitchen?
What happens when I take up fishing for (red) herring?

Not by installing GPS devices in kitchen utensils.

Police need to step up stop-and-search in high crime areas and better prioritise their resources. Gangs also need to be dealt with more aggressively.

We also need to get deeper into the root of the problem. A substantial amount of knife crime is perpetrated by youths in urban areas. These kids need role models, opportunities, discipline, and activities. The single parenthood problem needs to be addressed as well, as children raised in single parent families are more likely to turn to crime (this is significant in black communities).

We won't get anywhere with it until we take a more sensible approach to illicit drugs.

Well it may not be the most cutting-edge solution, but at least he had a stab at trying.

I understand, but here is my view.

These knives can be barcoded and registered during purchase. If Mrs. Jones purchases 2 knives, we know that she did and her information is recorded. It is her responsibility to monitor all her knives.

This includes all knives and for all activities including fishing.

I definitely agree with this point. However, I think we need to get the knives off the streets whilst clamping down on the drug trade.

Yes, you will need to register all the knives Mr Doones or else you could face imprisonment. This is not a laughing matter.

These are true and I don't refute them.

We need to get the knives currently there, off the streets. Then try to ensure the new ones dont get on the streets.

We also should not label it a “black” problem because Glasgow was also plagued with such violence. Once we treat it as a British problem and work on the source (as you rightly pointed out), then we can solve these problems.

Finally, we also have to talk about support. It is not new that the Government’s cuts have wrecked many communities, who have turned to drug sales. We cannot put all the blame on them.

Yes, I agree.

Also, Poverty = Drugs.

We don't see Eton and Harrow kids sell drugs on street corners. Instead they are doing summer work experiences at Goldman Sachs or McKinsey.

It is her responsibility to monitor all her knives.
So Mrs Jones will have to keep all her knives under lock and key? Or install CCTV in her knife drawer.
Does this include table knives? Butter knives?
Does she sign a waiver when she has a dinner party for her guests to use them?

Well there are certainly only 2 possible routes to go, a crack down will likely only encourage gangs to become even more violent though.
