I'm sure most people couldn't give a donkey's ball sack over the denominational difference between Sunni and Shia.

But we do wish they'd stop killing each other.

idk what this whole shia and sunni thing is. to classify yourself as a sect of islam is pretty unislamic imo.

atleast my understanding is that you follow the quranic teachings and you're good to go. islam is very simple, there's 5 main pillars of observation and bam.

1. belief in god
2. prayer
3. charity (obligatory that you give 2.5% of savings ea year)
4. fasting (in month of ramadan)
5. pilgrimage (make the trip to makkah atleast once in your life)

how do you even possibly divide further.. people love to complicate things.

some quranic verses:

[6:159] Those who divide themselves into sects do not belong with you. Their judgment rests with GOD, then He will inform them of everything they had done.

[30:32] (Do not fall in idol worship,) like those who divide their religion into sects; each party rejoicing with what they have.

[42:14] Ironically, they broke up into sects only after the knowledge had come to them, due to jealousy and resentment among themselves. If it were not for a predetermined decision from your Lord to respite them for a definite interim, they would have been judged immediately. Indeed, the later generations who inherited the scripture are full of doubts.

I agree, Muslims should work on being good muslims before anything else other than that. It’s causing Unnecessary hatred towards each other.

Denominations like in Christianity. Shia is the second largest in Islam.

They believe in 12 Imams. And are more accepting of other Religions than Sunni, Wahibi followers are

My best friend follows the shia sect led by the aga khan.
Shia is one of several denominations of Islam, just as protestant is a denomination of Christianity.

Shias were initially a small group that wanted religious leadership to automatically pass from the islamic prophet to his son in law, as it would have done under sixth century koresh tribal customs.
The word shia loosely translates as supporter, early shias were known as shias ali; supporters of ali- the son in law and cousin of islam's prophet.
The split later became more acrimonious with violent sectarians, religious fanatics and brutal political opportunists on all sides.
Later generations of shia leaders would develop a distinct ideological framework, customs and a clergy based upon the bloodline of islam's prophet.

The fanatics within the sunni community certainly say that.
Many sane sunnis disagree with shia theology and view shias as annoying separatists, rivals or idiots.
There are also many sunnis that reject sectarianism and religious intolerance.
