I’m 5’9, how do I accept my body? Watch

I’m a tall person and I hate it. Everyone has to point it out and say “oh my god, your so tall” I just say “No **** Sherlock I thought I was short”. They say how I’m so lucky to be this tall and how I should be a model and blah blah blah. But sometimes I just feel so insecure.

About two years ago I had to quit dance because of a knee injury and ever since I have gained some weight. Before my friends used to say “your so flat” or “you have no back etc..” and that really got to me. So then I tried to put gain weight, but it clearly didn’t work because I would go dance regularly and that’s basically exercising since it’s such an active sport.

But ever since I quit, I put on weight and now it’s my parents saying saying I’m fat or basically hinting at it and how I need to watch what I eat...

I just feel like I can never fit in, either because of my height, or how skinny I used to be or now with the weight I’ve gained. I honestly have break downs because of this and I get so upset yet angry at the same time because my friends are always the ones to get compliments from people... and then there’s just me.

Anyone else have similar experiences?

I would except my body if I were u as you are who you are and u are unique in many ways and u should be proud for how tall you are 😃. Sometimes I know we r a little jealous of other people’s height but honestly you should like your body as you shouldn’t compare your bodies and height to any one else 😀😀😀

Just wondering, how old are you?
Also from my personal experience being 19 and 5ft8, being tall from my childhood it can make or break you. It can be frustrating that people like to point it out but some people have really big mouths and that's something bad they carry with them that probably annoys many other people around them. Being tall can also be a big deal in the area you live in, a lot of people in my secondary school weren't very tall. Going to university I am taller than the average girl but there are many beautiful girls that are my height and a bit taller than me also which isn't a big deal as it comes with maturity and seeing more of the world and having similar characteristics to many people. 5ft9 in my opinion isn't out of the ordinary and isn't stopping you from getting compliments at all I promise. There may be someone out there admiring you from afar looking at the beauty of your face or your personality, your height doesn't make you/define your being, just remember that be confident, be you and don't listen to others! Take on the world! xx

I struggle a lot with my body, but I have an eating disorder (anorexia nervosa), so it comes with the territory. Have you told your parents to stop making comments? Sounds awful that they continuously make you feel like ****.

I'm a 5'10 girl, so I feel your pain. Unless you actually look like a model (with the proportions etc) then no guy wants to date you. I don't know how young you are, but I'm guessing I'm older and I can't exactly tell you that I've gotten comfortable with my height. It's not like being insecure about your nose or your teeth, because the slight chance of you having enough money to change that exists. With height...nadda. I can't even buy cute shoes with small heels because it'll bump me up to six feet! I always instinctively hunch myself around guys who are of similar height because I just feel like I should be smaller. I know that sounds stupid, but I've just always done it and I just do it without thinking as I've done it for so long in my teens (and around much-smaller family members), and I hope once I'm out of my twenties the height thing will finally become comfortable. Hope you become comfortable too!

I have. But I just feel like when they look at me they’re still judging me

Working on your self confidence, self worth and self compassion would probably help you massively.
