Basically, I make friends then get dropped. So I stopped bothering, but it’d be nice to have at least one friend you can be 100% comfortable with regardless of the situation. Someone who’s down for everything🤷🏻*♀️

friends go and come, so you should get used to it. the most important thing to know is never expect anything from anyone.

I like your thinking mate, don't attach to the idea that friends will always be there for you as a lot of the time they won't be. Detachment and awareness will lead to less suffering.

A bit of background info:
I'm 52 and saw a link for TSR because of taking part in an online course through a UK university - and I'm born and raised in the states. For all of you UK students, have another laugh. I was born in Kansas, and thought I never had a dog named Toto, I had an Auntie Em.

Developing long lasting friendships/relationships will have a lot to do with being able to accept each other when you are younger. The point to having friends is to engage with others that won't always share your unique perspective and you share thoughts that broaden your thoughts and interests. Throughout the friendship you'll all have good days and bad, and your own challenges and victories. Learn to share them, and give each other the opportunity to stay in touch. Don't judge one another, accept. Accept the different moods, behaviours, beliefs, responses, decisions, etc., to be something to enjoy with one another even when you don't agree. The best friends will be those who survive having life challenges at the same time as another friend, but working to get past them together. It's going to happen. I can't say how many times I've been dropped because someone I know experienced a challenge and didn't want to get past it. In time, you'll find yourself faced with the same question. In years of friendship, your friend cuts you off because you have overcome your own challenge, and they are still reliving and compiling their list of things to complain about. Eeyore existed because his friends got together collectively. They included him, but they usually found him sitting in the same paddock every time.
My core personality echoes your post. Even in my years, it still hurts to have someone cut you off. Bit it helps knowing yourself enough to know you are strong enough to move on. I saw it said best when I saw a meme on twitter.
“Be thankful for everybody in your life, good and bad, past and present. They all made you the person that you are today.”
I do make the effort, when someone has gone a length of time being silent to let them know I'll always be around if they need me.
