Hello everyone,

I have an interesting dilemma:

What would you guys call low-tariff universities?

You know the type, something like London Met, Leeds Beckett and generally universities which are very low in recognised table rankings?

Thank you

In some cases, I'd call them 'ex-polys' (i.e. former polytechnic colleges), but that's only if they actually are ex-polys.

If I had a reason to refer to all the low tariff unis with a single sweeping term then I'd probably use low tariff. Similarly if I wanted to refer to all the low ranked unis on a certain ranking I'd refer to them as such. But it's never something that's come up in conversation, so I've never given it any thought.

What is so interesting about this dilemma?
