Even though you didn’t do anything like come onto him, you’d be surprised at how we sometimes behave in a certain way and not notice. Or He may have found out you were gay somehow and realised how nice he was to you? It could have been misread. He probably just wanted to get that out there.
He likely just wanted to make sure that there was no confusion and that he wasn't mistakenly leading you on.
