Why would you want 12 gems? Do you get special powers?
Be funny or just have popular views like brexit or pro/ anti things.
Alternatively make friends with people who already have high reps or circle jerk with any and all who you can beg to join in.
You can make rep begging threads as well or just promise to rep anyone who reps you back.
Worth putting on your UCAS application and CV.

Rep is easy to get, just be witty on the first page of any thread.
Personally I'm getting about 3000 rep a month, so it should take about 16.5 months to get 12 gems.

Just done similar calculations and I'm gonna get there in another 677 months. Can't wait.
