LSE vs Nottingham Law

Torn between LSE and Nottingham Law

LSE A*AA including economics
Nottingham AAA

Econ is my weakest subject so I’d need to put a lot of work in to get an A. Was wondering if anyone has any advice on whether where i get my degree will affect my future career opportunities if I want to be a lawyer?

recent stats suggest nottingham has higher student satisfaction? Living costs are obviously a lot cheaper too

First of all, they’re both excellent universities and the reputation difference between the two isn’t big enough that it’ll make a difference to future employers.

What you should base your decision on is which one is right for you as they’re very different universities.

LSE has a smaller student body, doesn’t have a campus as such and you’re living in London. Some people will be suited to that, some less so.

Notts on the other hand has a massive student population, a huge (and beautiful) campus, while you’re studying in a fairly big city.

They’re going to be completely contrasting experiences - LSE wouldn’t be for me at all but for you it might be. Base the decision on where you’d rather see yourself studying.

LSEs never really appealed think it’s the London element combined with the small student body. Heard it’s quite dull.

But then again, it’s still a great uni. Don’t know if an employer would favour one over the other though even with LSEs great reputation.

Heard it’s quite dull.

On the contrary - it's all go round here. On Monday they unveiled an upside-down globe on campus, to encourage us to "think from different perspectives"...

And then people started getting a bit upset that there were labels for 'Israel' and 'The West Bank' but not Palestine (as the map is UN-delineated), so we're now in an endless cycle of the sculpture being vandalised, and then cleaned, and then vandalised again. Fun times.

In all seriousness though, going to university in London is obviously a completely different experience to somewhere like Warwick, and doesn't suit everyone. Personally, I like not being limited to the university - there are so many opportunities for work/volunteering/socialising far beyond LSE. I think I'd find a countryside/campus uni quite claustrophobic.

Yeah, definitely doesn't sound dull now you've shared that anecdote!

An upside-down globe?!

I’m sold now, why didn’t I put LSE?
Except it will. LSE is objectively ahead of Nottingham when it comes to law. Disagreeing with this is naive.
OP, why don't you firm LSE and have notts as an insurance?

I’m not disagreeing with you in the slifghest, LSE is the objectively better uni.

But in this instance there are much bigger things to consider: the fact of living in London, the international student nature of LSE, while Nottingham is a campus in a vibrant city.

I think there are more important factors than just the prestige of the course because it’s not as if Notts is a bad uni. If I had the choice, I’d go for Nottingham as I wouldn’t want to live in London for undergraduate study.

And that should form the majority of their thinking as Notts won’t hinder them in anyway.
