I want to drive so badly, I’ll be getting lessons soon but once I’ve passed what’s the best/cheapest way to get a car? I have friends who rich enough that their families have bought them brand new ones. Would I be better off getting an oldish car or a newer one

Get an old car as your first car, you don't want a brand new car as you're more likely to damage, dent, scratch or even crash your first car or within the first year.

That way it'll sting the pocket less if it does happen.

I agree with previous reply. Get a safe (technically good condition) but older car. Even later on you may find that you save thousands when buying slightly used cars instead of new ones.
