MSc Dilemma

Guys, I have a tough time choosing the best course among the following 4 courses:

1) University of Strathclyde - MSc Quantitative Finance
2) University of York- MSc Statistics and Computational Finance
3) University of York - MSc Financial Engineering
4) University of Glasgow- MSc Quantitative Finance

Which course do you guys think is better in terms of reputation, employer recognition and Faculty?
Gut feeling is by a mile, Number 4

I have two friends who recently completed Masters in (‘ology subjects) @ Glasgow, they both now have great jobs.
whilst my dear uncle is a recently retired professor from York, so I do know & like that campus. Strathclyde is also a great tech university.

Which course modules actually seems the most up-to-date with the ever evolving FinTech?

Maybe you need to search deeply inside the scientific research slurp-engine, https://scholar.google.com and see if you can derive your own ‘hit parade’ of papers in areas that you like.

I did a quick slurp and https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&q=fintech+Glasgow&btnG=

Gave me more Strathclyde research papers than UoG, than I was expecting, tho’ I suppose Strathclyde is in greater Glasgie. Have fun!

Hi, thanks for replying

Do you happen to know which math and stats department is better between Strathclyde and York. The offers I received from the universities were from their respective Mathematics and Statistics Departments.

Sadly, don't know directly.

I did a bit of research - you should do a lot more! - it will be your postgrad degree, your money and your life!

this bunch (no idea who they are) https://www.masterstudies.com/MSc/Financial-Mathematics/

do put York in the world top 13, but who are they to judge?

have you opened a researchgate.net account yet ? (it's a bit like Facebook for Scientists) , they do spam you a bit "people are reading your latest paper!" but you can just use them as a dedicated research search engine - check/see how many papers UoYork, UoStrathclyde & UoGlasgow have produced recently. You should ideally be choosing a place where the Maths & Stats dept isn't a folorn abandoned faculty, but where it is getting investment , staff and students.

here's a starting page at RG, one of the York staff. https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Zdzislaw_Brzezniak

UoYork general staff Maths pages are here https://www.york.ac.uk/maths/staff/
do you recognise anyone? Some of my colleagues have chosen to go to a particular place, or also specifically NOT to go to a particular college based on the informed reputation of a particular staff member, for good or for bad. That's due diligence.

This further Google found advert is aimed at Indian students, again just UoYork
check what these types of advertorials are saying about your other options

http://www.ukunifair.in/mumbai/news/university-york-has-introduced-new-mathematics-post-graduate-course-mumbai/

lots of data out there, you just have to fight the Google bubble, can try using https://www.google.com/ncr to get an unbiased Google start (non regional biased)

have fun, you have nice choices!
