Why do people think they would ever get a great Brexit deal?

I don't see why the EU would ever give us a great deal and make things easy for us as this would make it a lot better to be out of the EU and easy to leave. This would only encourage other countries to leave the EU which they obviously wouldn't want.

That is partly true and one of the theories are why they have been so obstructive and out to punish us for wanting to leave.

Time will tell though . Once we have left then we may do worse or better on our own and they will have to decide if they want more co operative trade with us or not.

The EU at the start was more about trade and co operation, but these days its been taken over by ever closer union and EU superstate. Lots of people in the UK were happy with trade but want to be an independent sovereign nation.

They might want to consider reforming so there werent so many subsidies.

No one on the leave side disputes that one can only assume they believe it will be made up by trade deals elsewhere and/or the effect will be small in the round
People never thought the remainers would become traitors and stab the country in the back after the referendum, usually democratic results are just accepted.

Our MPs were supposed to have been competent enough to sort out some sort of deal with the EU by now, in order to move on and develop trade deals with the rest of the world. We could default to a no deal, but with our goods and services being of the standard required by the EU and vice versa being able to be traded, and those that aren't not, but the EU currently wants to lock countries in on a level that is likely to deter future trade deals it may wish to establish.

There are no trade deals with the rest of the world. The world has made trade deals with the EU and the biggest trading partners would be unlikely to want to make special ones just for the UK, or to spend much time on it.

No Deal would be disastrous for our industry and even the threat of it is causing many companies already to leave the UK or to scale down operations here.

The lack of trade deals with the rest of the world is due to our politicians' incompetence/inexperience, and still being tied to the EU currently with unknown ties for the future. The referendum implied the two options would be to stay in the EU and be able to negotiate as part of a large bloc, or break away clean so we could benefit from our smaller yet still substantive economic power and also benefit from being more flexible - our MPs aren't doing either and so we're in a mess.

We are in the top 10 economies in the world, and though we might fall somewhat after Brexit, it wouldn't be anywhere near the extent that other countries won't be bothered to do deals with us, and we'd also be less demanding than the EU as a whole would.
