The mnemonic I was taught way back in the mid 1970s was

Please - Potassium
Sir - Sodium
Can - Calcium
My - Magnesium
Aunt - Aluminium
Called - Carbon
Zena - Zinc
Iron - Iron
Twice - Tin
Laboriously - Lead
Henry - Hydrogen
Cooper's - Copper
Merciless - Mercury
Silver - Silver
Gloves - Gold
P.S. - Platinum

For the younger generation Henry Cooper was a British heavyweight boxer.
