What BTEC did you do and what are you studying at uni? Also what uni if you don’t mind

I’m not sure what to do after GCSEs still unsure what course to pick next year

I know I want to do psychology at uni but would universities accept BTEC?

I’m doing a BTEC and have got into uni,, it might depend on what uni course you want to go into but they are pretty laidback these days about btecs and there isn’t the big stigma that there used to be

I did a BTEC National Diploma in 2007, got DDM, got accepted to SOAS for undergrad then LSE for my masters. It's definitely possible to get to a top uni if you do well on it.

Achieved a first-class degree at SOAS and great references from my lecturers.

I'd suggest starting your own thread to get better responses.

Could you contact your school to ask them for help interpreting results?

I did a BTEC in Art and Design in 2006. I got all merits. I later went into clearings to apply for a BSc Engineering Product Design from 2007 which I studied and completed until 2009. I know what you are thinking, didn't do anything in science during my two years in BTEC.

Well I wanted to stop drawing and painting and use that time instead to study and I had the GCSE Maths to expect the physics tests. I barely passed physics and later completed all the years.

Having the BTEC helped (at the time?) because the education sector was dominated with students who did A Levels and I knew doing a BTEC with the practical work offered something they didn't have and it helped me fit in but it is a two way street, I study like they did and filing essays and sit exams to pass modules.

My drawing ability helped to draw illustrations for my designs and to even posters during my later years for my later projects, which was beneficial because many think the work is to be in the library. Also not shying away from the workshop. There were students who did A levels and I never saw in the workshop because they were shy and there were more females there (knowing them because they really care about what they paid for then the guys). BTEC helped me quickly fit in there and it helpped me build the projects better then the others I knew. Always feel like doing over-time there. For other BTEC courses, I know they would help because we did a lot of CAD work on computers, so I know the other BTEC would find something in their field to use in the field they are studying during their degree studies.

What I did at uni was always prioritise my work. I would go to class/study nearly everyday (sometimes I took days off from burnout and hangovers but not often) until around 7-8pm then go socialise for a few hours/go out and repeat the next day. If you are talking about excelling in your BTEC, just do the work as soon as they give it to you and remember that everything is in your hands. I'm not sure what BTEC you do, but have a look at entry requirements for psychology courses and figure out if it's worth doing a foundation year. For me, I got into SOAS because I had a DDM which was equivalent to AAB at A-level. Good luck!!
