I think you can amend your application at any time, but Wolfson is also one of my top choices (I believe I put it second after Stamford St).

Hi I'm a LL.M student at Wolfson. I think it's the best of the halls of KCL. Though Stamford Street is closer to campus but Wolfson is more chilled out from what I've heard from people staying in the other KCL halls.

Depends on what you're looking for actually and whether you find it easy to make friends. Location is also good.

25 minutes to Strand 15 minutes to Waterloo (where first year law lectures are held). This is what I've read anyway.

guys already at wolfson: do you actually cook everyday? or is there like a cafe nearby that you go to on nights when u jus can't be bothered?

Applying for Wolfson, waiting for Thursday now... Does anyone know when they tell non-internationals where they'll be staying? Christ knows how I'll get all set up. All I know is that Wolfson is one of the few places I can afford. Anything above GDSA or SSA and I'm well and truly up the creek...

25 minutes to Strand, really? Doesn't seem that long to me...

Hi Guys

I'm living at Wolfson House right now. I'm in the Master of Laws (LL.M) batch of 2008-09.

The location is very good and quite safe. Close to London bridge and the riverside. Rooms are bigger than Stamford Street since they aren't en-suite. Much more chilled out security so that friends can come over easily. It's also cheaper than Stamford and Great Dover. Personally I didn't like the Great Dover street location. if you're living on the dorm side (14 to a floor) then it's easy to make friends with your floor mates provided you're the friendly kind.

I think Wolfson is a great place to live. Social life depends on you but I made a lot of friends. It does help if you smoke, because that's where you can make a lot of good friends. LOL. Bad habit, but it does have it's advantages. LOL.

Strand campus is about 20-25 minutes by bus and there's a RV1 bus which goes from London Bridge. Travelling hasn't been a problem at all especially with a monthly or yearly student bus pass.

As for cooking, I used to buy ready to eat stuff in the 1st semester but then I started cooking. there are lots of places around the area where you can eat. Otherwise just pick up something from the local supermarket and heat it. Food is the least of the problems.

It's a 20 minute walk till waterloo campus, otherwise just catch the 381 from outside the bus stop near Wolfson.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Cheers

Hey Sane...You don't happen to have any photos, do you? And I'll make sure to take up smoking full time, just for the socialising...:P

LOL@muckypaws. Yeah smoking will help for sure. I haven't been able to quit because of the socialising. I'll look for pics and put them up. Couldn't trace them just now.

@jclouka: Sharing the bathrooms is not a problem at all. I've never had to wait for too long for the shower. In fact most of the time, I don't have to wait at all. Most people have different time schedules and class timings, so it's pretty cool.

Kitchen sharing is not a problem either. What we did was, we had a kitchen meeting of all of us and divided each cupboard. There are 2 fridges and One freezer, so we all divided the shelves in the fridges and some people shared the bigger shelves. You might have a problem with people sometimes using your stuff in the kitchen and not keeping the kitchen clean, but by and large that's also not such a problem if you handle it properly.

Your floormates are the ones you're going to be hanging out with for most of the year and especially during exams, so be sure to make good friends with them. Otherwise you'll end up like the guy from Holland who lives next to me, who has not any close friends on the floor or for that matter in the hostel, nobody calls him for parties from our floor, no one ever knocks on his door, no one invites him to their room or goes to his room and he's mostly alone all the time, at least while he is in the hostel. It's fine during college time, when you meet lots of other people when classes are on, but during the exams and between June to September, if you're staying on, then it's good to have friends in the hostel.

As for Stamford, the rooms are smaller than Wolfson because of the en-suite, it's not that social, security is too strict so visiting for your friends might be a problem. Plus you're living in flats and not a dorm, so you only get to know the people in your flat really well and probably while smoking. LOL. Besides think of how much time you're actually going to be spending in the shower/ loo. LOL. Is it worth the extra amount you're paying? I don't think so. You can use that money to enjoy your life in London.

Hope that helps

Cheers

Does anyone have pictures of the king's accommodations from the inside? I'm tired of looking at Brian Creamer from the outside. Lol.

Hi, have you since found the pictures? I'm split between BCH and Wolfson even though I'm going to be based at Guy's campus...

Do you know how many people there are per bathroom at BCH? (Read your other post about the place)

i would recommend you guys and girls stay at home if you are within 1hr travelling distance of central london...thats what im doing...halls are ******* horrible places to live in and the private accomodation after the first year are just as bad (and expensive)...but im a mature student so i guess you younglings 'think' you know better...please listen to me

I really want to put Wolfson as my first choice but I cannot seem to log in, the username i've been allocated starts with 10, so do you reckon they've issued incorrect details?

Edit: Never mind, I can log in now.

Reply 75

I've put it first choice, so what it's a bit shabby, let's face it none of it's gonna be top notch! I like the area and the people seem cool, not too far from the strand either and for nutters who actually like public transport, cheaper prices means more money to go out

Strand and GDS look so boring, traditional halls look so much better! I put Hampstead and Intercollegiates after Wolfson, didn't notice the £500 deposit for Intercollegiates toll yesterday-glad I did!

Hello. I was wondering whether wolfson house has lifts as I am currently 27 stone and can not ascend the steps in a tower block. Secondly I was worried about the size of the showers as for me to bathe safely I require a shower cubicle at least 1.5m in width as if I were to fall in one smaller I run the risk of suffocating under myself. Finally the toilet seats have to be made from a strong composite as the last time I sat on a low grade plastic seat it broke and fragmented causing deep lacerations to the back of my leg. Thank you in advance look forward to meeting everyone.
