Pragmatics-spoken langauge

I know what pragmatics is, and how to analyse it in langauge, but you also have to analyse the pragmatics of spoken language. My question is when, analysing a text and looking for the pragmatics of spoken language, especially in a transcript or speech, do you analyse using spoken language features and rhetorical features ( as they are features of spoken language) and then comment on why it was used etc.
