A2 French Edexcel Truffaut Essay Questions

Hi!

I'm revising Truffaut - we're studying Jules et Jim and Le Dernier Metro - and was wondering if anyone has any of the past paper essay titles? I know there's usually one about la nouvelle vague and maybe comparing the main characters so i've revised that but i've lost my list and can't find a definitive one anywhere!

Also - wishful thinking i suppose - but if anyone knows a title that hasn't come up yet....

I'm doing Truffaut too but only have titles in english (stupid i know but an extra challenge to practise your translation skills! muahaha)

2002:
- Bernard and Jim - their lives and personalities are they similar?
- What techniques of New Wave have been used in the films? Are they successful?

2003: don't have these for some reason...

2004:
- Relationship between Catherine and Jules/Marion and Lucas - Which is the most admirable?
- Give examples of realism in the films - how does it contribute to their success?

2005:
- Explain the term 'author' in New Wave Cinema. Up to what point is Truffaut faithful to being one? (That is v. hard, would have def avoided that one!)
- Attitude towards women in the two films; could you say the male characters are nicer than the female ones?

2006:
- What New Wave techniques are used? Are they successful?
- Describe the attitude of Marion and Catherine towards love: do the men or the women dominate the relationship?

My teacher pointed out that most topics have been covered so it may be time for another Bernard and Jim or a Lucas and Jules. There is always one connected to New Wave in some way.
