Had a fabulous day out in Oxford yesterday. We visited the Carfax Tower (good general views), Balliol, Sheldonian (fantastic views from the top), New College, Teddy Hall, University, St Catz, Magdalen, and Divinity School in the Old Bodleian. It was very worthwhile and enjoyable, and nice for youngest daughter on her first ever visit to the city. She really liked what she saw, and is looking forward to visiting again soon.
Our eldest was working so couldn’t join us, but is looking forward to looking around and discovering things for herself in the very near future - just under 3 weeks now!

How exciting for you both! Sounds like a great day out! Hope your daughter has a fabulous time at Oxford.

pink woshette and I have also been on our travels and came back from Stratford upon Avon yesterday. I am in the middle of creating a thread ( calling it pink woshette visits Stratford upon Avon and Warwick- Shakespeare edition) will post the thread here when it’s finished

the Shakespeare birthplace trust gave woshette special access - in Shakespeare’s birth room, she was even allowed to lie down on a replica of Shakespeare’s crib!
Enjoy Pink Woshette's visit to Stratford upon Avon and Warwick - Shakespeare special edition!

Hi, I think I’m right in thinking that your daughter is starting at St Catz? My son is too but he’s had no info yet about booking a moving in time, what to take, freshers week etc. It’s two weeks away and I’m getting a bit concerned. He emailed today just to check he hasn’t been overlooked but no reply yet. Has your daughter heard anything?

Hi @Tefal53, you are correct and likewise no information as yet from St Catz. Daughter was on the Zoom q&a session on Tuesday with some of the Facebook group, and they were told not to worry as the info was imminent. They were also advised it was sent out quite late last year too. It was restated that they don’t need to take any bedding, which Stefan had already told us when he gave us a tour of the college in July. On the Zoom session they were informed of having a formal meal in hall during freshers week, together with fellow freshers on their course and their tutors. Think they also said an Ethernet cable is provided. Hopefully the information will be received very soon.

What course is your son doing?

Aah, thank you so much for all that info. You’ve put my mind at rest! He’s doing Mathematics and Computer Science. What will your daughter be studying?

It’s really good to have this thread to enable us to share information like this. She’s doing Physics, so lots of maths for her too which she loves. In between working, getting organised, and socialising, she’s nearly finished the pre-course work set. Hope your son has heard from his college parents. My daughter has three mums, and three sisters….

I am very glad you are enjoying this thread. It's all about being part of one big, Oxford family.
I hope all you parents (and your children) enjoy these special Oxford days.

It has seemed like a long wait, but it's worth it.

Hello @Oxford Mum
I was so excited about going to Oxford last weekend and didn’t sleep much the night before, after staying up to watch the brilliant US Open tennis final. I wore my daughter and hubby out completing my schedule for the day, but we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We did manage to enjoy a few breaks, eating our packed lunch in stages at different locations, and enjoying the tranquility of different college grounds in the process. There wasn’t enough time to fit in Wadham and a couple of others bordering the far side of University Parks. It would be nice to have a look at some of the other colleges on another occasion, including Brasenose where my daughter’s friend is going, and perhaps to Oriel too one day.

Thank you for good wishes @ Oxford Mum

Looks like you and Pink Woshette enjoyed a fantastic trip to Stratford last weekend; I’ve enjoyed reading all about it and seeing Wosh on her travels. You’ve clearly put a lot of time into it. How about making a scrapbook of her travels?

TSR is my scrapbook, tbh, and I am very pleased to see that 550 students on here joined in on her travels. Next stop probably Edinburgh in May (my birthday) or, if travel gets easier, Barcelona.

It's hard to get into Brasenose, but, courtesy of your daughter's friend, you could get a grand tour. It's my son's graduation at the end of October, so I will be going back to the lovely Oriel.

Wadham has lovely, tranquil grounds, which you cannot see from the hurly burly of the road outside. I hope, the colleges will start letting more people in to visit (like Cambridge is already doing) soon.
BAD NEWS

TSR are making changes to the Oxbridge forums, and they have decided to remove the Oxford Parents Association thread, despite it having over 190k views and receiving comments every day

I don't think it is. See the reply to your post on that link
That's right. But it certainly put the wind up me this morning.
Bit clumsy wasn't it... will be ok though.
Daughters back up at Lancaster now. Couple of weeks ago dropped off the main bulk of her things as she cant officially move in until this Wednesday. Landlord has been decorating as previous tenants were medics and had been there 5 years, so it needed a touch up. It was the open day on Saturday just gone and the youngest wanted to go to check out zoology. So we all went up together did the open day and dropped off the eldest at an airbnb for 4 nights with the last of her things which was a full suitcase, and her laptop.
Their uni freshers does not start until the 4th so she's doing all the things this week and next with the second years. Also booked a bongos bingos night for mid October. Then the week after freshers its straight into particle physics and according to 'Alice does physics' on you tube (she did Lancaster BSC /Oxford MSC) 2nd year is very full on.

Crafty mum, if you get chance, visit Merton College and its grounds. so beautiful and there is a wall at the far end of one of the gardens with a path that runs round it. It is said thats where Tolkien and CS lewis wrote a lot of their material at a table by the wall. Quite enjoyed also going to lady margeret hall and then walking from the rear of the college and through the park which is also very pretty  I really hope she enjoys physics at oxford

Tefal hope your son enjoys St catz. my daughter went to visit there when she did the uniq summer school and she said its lovely and very spacious and the jcr is very big
And to everyone who will be going back soon, exciting times ahead

It seems as though they're planning for rather more fun this year - my daughter has already got a ticket for a 'different nightclub every night' event organised by her college 😯

Hopefully any freshers events your daughter missed out on last year, she'll be able to join in on this year.

With the Oxford "parenting system" I'm hoping my daughter will be able to join her college children in some of the freshers events - it is good to hear more events are planned this year. My daughter is looking forward to going back on Sunday - unfortunately we are not able to stay over this time - hopefully we'll be able to pop down for a night half way through the 1st term.
We're still waiting to hear the date for our daughter to be 'delivered' - is it likely to be Tuesday 5th October? And when you do hear, will we get a time slot to turn up does anyone know? Does each college do this differently?
