I truly know next to nothing about politics and everything going on in our country. I know that everybody should know about politics but I always feel too embarrassed to ask, anybody know where I should start? I don't want to be a master of politics, just to know enough to vote confidently and fully understand the news

Just jump in.. read a few political articles in papers, subscribe to a few political twitter accounts, watch some political to shows, question time on BBC is easy to start with.. find a few political youtubers whose content you can enjoy etc.

A month or two of that and you'll be pretty up to speed on all the current political topics.

After that the next stage would be reading and learning about political history, as it comes up a lot in political discussions.. tte past shapes and frames the presents, so comparisons to examples from the past, or precidents that were set are common in political discussion
