I'm at Merton, doing medicine if I can help with anything.

Reply 2

Roughly what grades in GCSE do you need to apply to Merton? and what alevels? In particular for PPE?

Reply 3

Doing medicine at Oxford...what's your IQ 200? By the way what's the drama like at Merton?

I'm not aware of any specific requirment in terms of GCSEs, but I would have thought that at least 50% A*s is the norm.
PPEists tend to have a mixture, but always include maths. I'll ask arround, but I would have thought that maths, economics, history would be quite okay.
Drama is not my thing, but it's very good. the Merton Floats ends to have lots of trips as well as putting on performances. There is also a drama element in cuppers and you can write your own play.

You went to Tiffin, no? Surely your GCSEs can't have been that bad? I think you're probably looking at them from an over-achieving perspective. Cheer up, dear.

Oh and Merton is so damn yey for Econ...*happy sigh*

no im just being all miserable...i dunno...yeah i was surprised... i got one of the best results in my form...but still not that good...well not good enough compared to any of the people i know applying to oxbridge...and all my A grades were border line A* which makes me so depressed...i keep thinking what if i revised...what if i opened a damn book. You know i have this horrible memory of watching a bloody gardening program instead of revising biology and in the exam i didnt know one of the questions and i kept hitting myself thinking ...well if i revised one page of bio instead of parking my lazy arse infront of the tv...i really do hate charlie dimmock

yeah i went to tiffin and hated my 5 years there...THEY WERE HELL...im so glad to see the back of that.

Anyway...i dont think im good enough for Oxford...so i may apply and hope for the best...or i just not apply.

pm me your results...

I got in for E&M (twice ) and I have comparatively bad GCSE grades - 3.5A*, 5A, 2B and 1D. It's far more about the interview than GCSEs. I applied the 2nd time with AABBCU at A level, and got a (conditional) offer.

What is important? Do you mean academics or some old school links? From the people I've met here, I really don't have a good opinion of St Pauls, though Westminster does seem to be firly w00tly.

Reply 13

Oi! I hope you mean St. Paul's Girls. Nothing wrong with the boys school...upstanding institution it is.

Reply 14

I do, I've yet to meet someone from St. Paul's Boys. I don't know what it is about the couple of SPG girls I've met is, but they do seem to have a certain blase, brutally honest arrogance about them. Maybe it's just them, but the couple I've met live up to the stereotype of posh girls school grads, whereas most of the public school people are really nice

SPGS is a strange case: they spend half their time telling everyone who'll listen that they're like a Sixth Form College, not as stuffy as the traditional Public Schools but offering outstanding facilities. Yet, they send the rest going around telling everyone how great they are, when, according to those in power, that's what Public Schools do!

And, as for league tables; exactly what ones do they top? Last time I look, they where 40-odd points off the top spot.

Wiiiilll....have you met the Merton E&Mists? There should be one Etonian and one SPGS girl amongst the four of them. Could you sneak into Merton and investigate? I might be quite upset if the other two are from Westminster or Charterhouse and the like... :frown:

There's only 3 of them, and no girl, according to my freshers' list. One of them scarily has the same surname as a Univ PPEist, so I'll ask her if there's a relation.

So they get 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% more of their papers in the A/B bracket, or something

Also, you could argue that schools that allow students to sit more than 4 A-Levels are disadvantaged by that method, too. SPGS are just guilty of false advertising; the official tables are the ones that count.

I would have a look at the college list, which has such information, but fail to see how it is important, or that they would appriciate people being told such things.

Hey! I'm applying to Merton too this year. I want to study English.
