Not much more to say than that really- but from the photos it looks pretty serious!

Hopefully no lives are in danger!

One of the towers appears to be almost completely burnt out.

Could be an electrical fire.

York minster has survived a couple of fires, so hopefully Notre Dame can too- but it really does look serious!

Looking at some of the clips on Twitter. It's going to be a wreck.

It looks like the fire has spread since the initial photographs.

Indeed, looks absolutely gutted already and it's still in the midst of a full blaze.

Doesn't look promising at all that much could be saved.

There's some speculation that the roof frame is on fire- I don't know much about structural engineering but that sounds like it could be very bad.

The photos look like something out of a post apocalyptic movie.

extremely sad - they need to investigate and hopefully manage to restore the cathedral to its full glory, its seen so much in its history, i think everyone's hearts sank when that spire collapsed

The roof has now also collapsed.

Is there any chance that the fire could spread, or is the cathedral relatively isolated?

I think it will stay at the cathedral because it seems fairly solitary but it is just whether the rest of the structure can be saved. This is tragic.

Unfortunately, I think that is looking increasingly unlikely.

The only solace I can find is that no one seems to be harmed.

Yeah, that's pretty amazing at this stage. I think luckily they have been very quick to evacuate everyone.

It's pretty admirable considering they were in the middle of a mass. I'll give them that
